DominO123
I know I have already talked about this free 3d modeling software. But the new version just made it all. This thing is about 3 mb, and you have nearly all the options you have in softwares worthing thousands of $$$. What I wonder is, how is it possible to make a program that small which would have the options of programs of hundreds of Mb. Azat, Sip, any ideas? Why those other softwares are so much heavy, when a little software of few mbs does the same job? The book of the newer version is about 800 pages. Must be in my knowledge the record holder in terms of pages per mb of software. And there is more, the software is on Windows, Linux, MacOS(yes Vava ) etc... I dought it, those programs are at list 1gb big Edward, the name of the software is Blender, it is a modeling, animating etc... it does all in one package. And yes! it has most of the features of softwares like 3D Studio Max, Maya etc... In your opinion, does this not compare to expensive softwares? DominO123
Oh, I just realise the two software you use... what you use is for technical modeling, Blender is more general, in the same line as 3D studio Max.

ED
That’s a kid’s staff Domino jan yes mine are mechanical programs, engineering, with so many deferent modules in them, but I also came familiar with Maya, working with wire frames and skeletons, Maya is mostly what they use now days in studios around this town, in such ones as (if I'm not mistaken) Jurassic park (some of the animation) and its a canadian softwere
Azat
... and its a canadian softwere God knows it can't be good if it is developed up there.
vava
Ahem - actually many of the studios are using software developped here for digital video animation - including Maya, StudioTools by Alias/SGI in Toronto and SoftImage XS, Behaviour & Mental Ray by SoftImage in Montreal and probably the largest, Discreet Logic (merged with AutoDesk - makers of AutoCAD) who have an entire suite of animation and video effects software - Flame, Fire, Smoke and Combustion, as well as the best utility for video compression in multiple formats Cleaner. DominO123
That’s a kid’s staff Ed. Blender is harder than Maya, or 3D studio max to use. Just install and try right away to do even primitives, you'll see what I mean. You are underestimating it, it is used by some studios and very popular, its book is near 800 pages long. Here an interview. http://www.macuarium.com/macuarium/actual/...blendergb.shtml I use Gmax, a reduced version of 3D studio MAX, and it's free but with lots of limitations like export limits etc... and what I can say is that Blender has all the opinions I've searched, plus all the export goodies. Just search blender on internet, there are tones of tutorials etc... Edited May 25, 2004 by Fadix

ED
Domino jan I was just kidding, of course its not easy I was comparing it with what I use and its totally deferent animal, we use solid based parametric environment where aver single details is a line or an arc, spline a curve etc..... you know to achieve (in details) not just a shade I have to create from solid modeling, and all the components in the particular structure, model or assembly has to have a parent child relationship, another words if you are familiar what I'm saying then this will make sense to you. imagine a engine and all its components now there must be 10.000 or more or less parts that come together in it and make it a single assembly, in this case this will me the engine, now all of those are build around a skeleton with there plains, datum lines, along maintaining parent child relationship, what does it mean? means if you delete a part which has a parent, for example a screw that goes in a hole, you cant unless you delete the hole also, its a complicated process and takes years to master, that’s why I said Kids staff buddy . I came across Maya once and like I said its not what I do, but principals are the same just one has less to work with wile the other takes years to master and its a never ending process. here is a PTC site take a look at it. http://www.ptc.com/appserver/it/icm/cda/ic...w=y&keyword=

DominO123
http://img146.exs.cx/img146/5092/test8iy.jpg I finally ended up playing with it. (Don't laught at it guys, it's one of my first projects) Started on Wings3d, imported to Blender, did the rest on it, and rendered with Yafray plug-in, and the light effect added in Gimp. I'm in my Open source phases, I'm kind of having GNUs as fetish right now... They're really my programs... I havn't pirated them. Weird the feeling that it does. I am seriously considering moving compleatly on Linux, as I have found everything I need in GNU, only the equivalent of Macromedia Flash editor is left to find. Azatig, find me this, and I'll become a honest man that will not be using any pirated program.(at least I will be trying ) Edited December 18, 2004 by Fadix

Azat
Domino, I am going to kill you for getting my hopes high and then crushing them.... DominO123
any one of you guys used bryce? any comments on it? style_images/master/snapback.png Yes I did. Bryce is for environment... it's amazing the easiness of this program, but the problem is that it has a limited freedom, while with Blender or Wings3d, you can control every parameters. Both Blender and Wings3d are open source freewares. There is a PDF of the user manual of both softwares on the web. There is the renderer Yafray which is amazing.
