Gamavor jan, I am happy to say that I fall in that age range, but does a winner of a Beast Contest qualify as well, or should I just stand in line with the elders and bikers?

If giant and festively plump with wealth, which is seeping out their pores, pharmaceutical companies would lower the prices of the necessary and not luxurious (read between the lines pfizer... also read between the lines sorryyyyy on sale for $9.99) medication, the demand wouldn't go to Mexican and Canadian markets.

do you have any idea how much money and time it takes to market a new drug?? especially with all the tight FDA regulations and red tape!! well, if you did, then you'd understand why we can't just give away pills and tabs to people who need it!! this is not a socialist country after all, and the culprit here is the miserable u.s. health care system and the upper limit of prescription meds put in place by private insurance companies!! the pharmaceutical industry constitutes healthcare as well as business! without the latter, the industry would collapse!! so what do you suggest??? well, since you're not a u.s. citizen you can't really suggest anything but what i think should be done is for the dammn government to put some of our hardearned tax dollars into a universal healthcare system!! it's bigger than an industry and individual politicians!! it's the gloomy mindset of a nation!! which basically says that those who can afford will stay healthy, and those who cannot either develop complications and die or run across the border...either border!!!

I agree 1000%(you can even add another 0 at the end if you want) with Bruin on this one.

 

So what a company is greedy? Where does it say that if you can sell a item for X dollars, you should sell it for X-5 to make people happy. They are in the business of making money.

 

And it is 100% true that creating new medication and marketing of new medication is very expansive. VERY expansive.

 

Eve, I am sure they have some number cruncher who has calculated the dollars that they can charge for sorryyyyy to make the most money. Because I am sure if it was few dollars more not enough people would use it and if it was few dollars less more people may use it but the amount that they make at whatever prise they sell it at earns them the most money.

 

few facts:

Pfizer Income - 3.94 Bil for 2003

Merck - 6.83 Bil

GE - 15.59 Bil

Bank of America - 10.81 Bil

Citigroup - 17.85 Bil

 

So if we are going to go after companies that make alot of money before we get to Pfizer and Merck, we should go after the likes of GE and Citigroup.

 

Don't get me wrong. I am very compassionate for people who have a very hard time paying for medication(I feel it personally as I have aging parents) but I also fee that free enterprise will find the best price for any item.

 

If there is any wrong doing in medicine it is some of these malpractice insurance stuff that is costing us a lot of money.

 

BTW: just recently I personally was prescribed medication for my ulcer that my insurance company would not pay for and had to pay $300 for 2 week supply. Ouch...
