DominO123
Ok! Guys, this is very important, it concerns the votable Private Members bill, the motions M-380 and M-377 of the Canadian House of Commons regarding the Armenian genocide. It will be debated and voted on Feb. 25, 2004. What is so important with this bill, it is that it is under the new policy of the house of common, which means that the Prime Minister CAN NOT block the bill to be voted. This time, the bill will be voted, and the Prime minister under Turkish pressure can not prevent it. This is why ATAA, even if based on the USA, is interfering in internal Canadian affairs, by lunching an email campagn, by using American Turks, which is a VIOLATION of our Sovereignty. If people realise, the bill is VERY IMPORTANT!!! as for the first time, there will be not "stopping" it to be voted... and it is as well VERY IMPORTANT!!! Because the US is as well again on the road of having another bill, and the passage of this bill will have a direct repercution on the upcomming US one. This time Canada is really on the road of recognition, and NOTHING!!! Should stop it. So, here for the Canadian members of this board, and those that have Canadian friends, families etc..., I have prepared with the help of Vava, and particularly Stormy, a Draft letter. I was forced to prepare one myself, as those prepared by the McGill University Armenian Students' Association were not of my taste(nothing against you guys ). I still have kept the "simple steps" prepared by the McGill Armenian Students' Association. And made some modifications. So, here it comes. "Please follow these simple steps: 1. Compose a new e-mail message with "PLEASE SUPPORT M-380 & M-377 / Name LastName" in the Subject box. Please refrain from using obscene e-mail accounts (i.e. sexyarmeniangirl85), and feel free to create a more formal email address for such purposes. Additonally, forward a copy of your messages to us by adding the following address "billm_380@hotmail.com" to your BCC box, so that we may keep track of all the emails sent out. 2. Scroll down to find the e-mail addresses of the 300 members of the parliament and copy-paste them into the To box. If your server does not allow you to send to so many e-mail addresses at once (i.e. YahooMail & Hotmail), break them into smaller groups of 30 or 50 and send multiple emails so as to reach all 300 MPs. 3. Scroll down to Domino sample letter, choose it, and copy-paste it into the Message box. Remember, you may modify it, shorten it or change it. You may also compose your own message, but please keep it short and concise, trying to not write more than 10 lines. 4. Sign your full name at the bottom, adding the city of residence or your address in full. This step is particularly important. 5. Forward this message to all your family and friends, and follow-up so as to make sure they take action as well and forward it on to their friends. Also, please contact your local member of parliament A.S.A.P. and ask for his/her support to pass Motions M-380 & M-377. " ----------------- Dear Mr./Ms. Member of Parliament, I am writing you concerning the Private Members Motion M-380 & M-377 by Ms. Dalphond-Guiral. I strongly approve of this motion, and I count on you to support it and NOT take the side of those who deny war crimes and genocide. -The Armenian massacres under the definition of the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights December 9, 1948 declaration, constitute a Genocide. Refusing to name this tragedy with its proper term is to – *SUPPRESS the legal aspect of the word genocide, bearing in mind that lawyer Raphael Lemkin (the inventor of the term) not only included the Armenian massacres as an example of genocide in his official papers, but, more importantly, he placed the Armenian cases as a part of the definition of the term. (See: “Genocide” by Raphael Lemkin, American Scholar, Volume 15, no. 2 [April 1946].) *DISCREDIT the legitimacy of the various international bodies that judge war crimes, such as the United Nations Subcomission of Human Rights, which recognises the Armenian massacres as a case of genocide. *REJECT the legitimacy of the Permanent People Tribunal (Sorbonne), which, in 1984, recognised the Armenian cases as genocide and as undeniable. *DISREGARD the legitimacy of the Turkish Military Tribunal, a Turkish court which in 1919 sentenced the leaders of the Ottoman Empire to death, for having ordered the extermination of the Armenians. (See: The Ottoman official Law Gazette, Takvim-i Vekâyi reviews about the issue.) *DISREGARD the Holocaust and Genocide institutes, comparative genocide studies institutes, and various other such bodies’ conclusions regarding the Armenian genocide. *REWITE HISTORY and give the revisionists an open door in their task to revert the role of the victims and the aggressors by fabricating a mythological conspiracy theory, in which the victimized minority becomes the aggressor against the majority. ---Claiming that others also died during the period as a justification of the non-use of the term is akin to denying the Shoah, since in World War II more Germans died than did Jews. Armenians, Jews, Tutsis, etc., died because they were who they were. Many others may have died with them, but it is not the number of victims that makes an event a genocide. It is “why” they were victims that determines such. It is time for Canada to refer to those events with the proper term - genocide. And, if Canada does not do so, she will take the defense of the deniers of genocide. Canada will be the defender of the Irvings, Flaurissons and Zundels of this world. To say never again, Canada has “Le Devoir” to recognise this crime as it should. -------------------- -MAIL ADDRESSES OF THE 300 MPs Ablonczy.D@parl.gc.ca ; Adams.P@parl.gc.ca ; Alcock.R@parl.gc.ca ; Hard to tell when it will be put to vote... the problem is because an election is probably expcted soon so there is many resheduling... the thing with those private members discussions is that the vote happens during the second one... and still the second did not happen. It could happen very soon or even after the election.

vava
Well, good catch, Utahan. There seems to be a descrepancy. There was no mention in the transcript of the parliamentary session, so I can't confirm to you which is correct, sorry Maybe Domino can help out. DominO123
M-380 is probably what will be voted, the M-377 is a "just in case" that they decide to vote for the M-377. So it is btter for you to keep the two if you want to send the draft.

TimeForChange
Dear Armenian, In these coming weeks the Canadian Parliament is going to vote on Bill M-380(the vote will most probably take place on April 28th). As most of you know by now, Bill M-380 deals with the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. As Canadian-Armenians, we are at the closet point of seeing the country we live in recognize the tragedy that struck our forefathers nearly 90 years ago. Every Armenian has the opportunity and the duty to contribute to this recognition. The ANC-Canada has set up a website in order to send emails to Members of Parliament. Please visit the website and send a message to the MPs in order to get their support on Bill M-380. Be advised that the Turkish community has been organizing massive anti-recognition campaigns; therefore it is crucial for Armenians to send these emails to the MPs. The Parliament will resume on the 19th of April, after its Easter break. Please send your email before April 19th, after that deadline, anything sent is meaningless. Furthermore, since the vote will be held a couple of days after April 24, it is essential that Armenians show up in great numbers in Ottawa on April 24th and hopefully influence the vote. These coming days can be historical for the Armenian community of Canada and for all Armenians around the world. Please visit the website below to send your email. http://hdtshop.com/hay/send.asp Thank you for your support,

DominO123
Armenian National Committee of Canada 3401 Olivar-Asselin Montreal, Quebec H4J 1L5 Tel: 514-334-1299 Fax: 514-334-6853 April 18, 2004 NEWS RELEASE Second Reading of the Armenian Genocide Recognition Motion Tabled on April 20, 2004 OTTAWA - The House of Commons is scheduled to continue its debate on April 20 on Private Member's Motion M-380 to recognize the Armenian Genocide. After the second reading, the House must vote to adopt or reject the motion. Due to scheduling reasons, it is unlikely that the House will vote on the motion on April 20. It is foreseen that the vote will take place on the following day. Motion M-380, which had its first reading on February 25, was moved by MP Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral (Laval Centre, BQ), and seconded by MPs Sarkis Assadourian (Brampton Centre, Liberal), Jason Kenney (Calgary Southeast, Conservative Party of Canada) and Alexa McDonough (Halifax, New Democratic Party). According to the House Order Paper and Notice Paper, Motion M-380, was originally scheduled to be tabled on April 28. Because of a last-minute arrangement between Madam Dalphond-Guiral and Ms. Libby Davies (Vancouver East), a switch of motions took place and the Armenian Genocide recognition motion was brought forward by one week. Dr. Girair Basmadjian, president, Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC), expressed the Armenian community's appreciation to Ms. Davies for her humanitarian and courageous gesture to switch her private member's motion with madam Dalphond-Guiral motion, to allow the vote to take place before the 89th anniversary commemorations of the Armenian Genocide on April 24. `We hope that the House of Commons will adopt this motion on the eve of the 89th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, and put and end to the anguish of Canadian-Armenians so that we can begin the healing process,' Dr. Basmadjian said. The ANCC has campaigned diligently for 25 years for Canada's recognition of the Armenian Genocide. As in the Senate's recognition of the Armenian Genocide, ANCC has been a driving force behind Motion M-380. Motion M 380 reads `That this House acknowledges the Armenian genocide of 1915 and condemns this act as a crime against humanity.'
