Dan
Google excludes race hate, religious sites Google, the world's most popular search engine, has quietly deleted more than 100 controversial sites from some search result listings. http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/business/0,39...20269353,00.htm What do you think about this? Should a search engine do that? A search engine is supposed to give the information to its users in a non-biased manner after all, no? I mean, as long as kiddie porn is on there, I don't see why racialist websites should be banned.... Do you think Google is going down the drain of political correctness?? I for one think it is... maybe it's cos it's being run (/pressurised) by censorship crazed zionists..? Just wondering what people think about this. Obviously, I oppose this. I really don't understand those people who are more worried about websites that promote white pride (without advocating genocide/killing, etc.) instead of being worried about child pornography...... maybe it's because someone's religious book (not gonna name religions here) allows the marriage between old men and 3 year olds..? I think Google is going down big time. Just like AOL.. Censorship has never done any party any good. Except you-know-who (see topic description)....... Just my 2 cents. Sasun
Tyler pointed to Google's terms of service agreement, which says Google will "consider on a case-by-case basis requests" to remove links from its index. Interesting... perhaps we could send an email to Google with a list of anti-Armenian websites including the ones that deny the genocide. I think it's worth a try although hard to believe they will pay any attention.
Dan
heh, good observation, Sasun... but i'm not surprised - because it seems like google is being run by zionists who want the jewish holocaust to be the only accepted mass-murder attempt.. no wonder.. google indeed going down the drain..... http://64.21.83.54/forum/style_images/1/icon8.gif edit: boycotting google.. about time.. gevo27
Dan, this is largely in part due to correctness... i say they are doing good.. they wont limit your sources, trust me when i use it and get 435 thousand hits, i only check the first pg maybe maybe the 2nd... so you are making big deal of it.. Also.. why shouldnt they.. is google owned by the government? Do our tax payers money make it run, i dont hink so so really we dont have a say in what they do.... And your trying to blame certain groups for this but you dont name it.. hmmm Dan, i find that contradictory cause you are pointing fingers at google for not giving you all the info you should get and being politically correct, and your here saying what you have to say and trying to be politically correct urself.. maybe it's because someone's religious book (not gonna name religions here) maybe it's cos it's being run (/pressurised) by censorship crazed zionists..? I dont know Dan, seems contradictory to me bud....
gevo27
try this if u think its being controlled and only mass murder hits u get are about the jews... You are wayy of Dan jan,, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY OFF!
Dan
seems contradictory? i am talking about jews, brother.. wake the hell up!!! how is that contradictory?!?!?! and PLEASE!!!!!! blaming the jews is the height of political incorrectness... i am not worried about search results. it's a matter of ideology!! Dan
gevo, talking about specific websites -- google.de and google.fr, per se. so by that token, google.com (for USA) would have to remove all websites for each and every group that doesn't like a specific website directed at their racial group?!?! Dan
http://www.gavinsblog.com/2003/03/06.html#a117 alltheweb.com looks good. i dont hink so so really we dont have a say in what they do i'm not talking about having a say in what they do. i am talking about MY decision to use it or not, and for that matter, Armenian people's decision to use it or not. try e-mailing them and asking them to remove anti-Armenian websites from their database... and let me know if they get back to you about it. if they do get back to you, and with a positive reply, i will reconsider using their engine. otherwise i won't, and i suggest that people start using other search engines, they're as good (if not better than) as google. http://www.google-watch.org/ Edited January 22, 2004 by Dan

gevo27
ok, whatever doesnt really seem like an issue to me.. google can do wahever they want.... thre are many search engines out ther pick 1.... But i dont see that by taking some racialist websites or not taking others makes them not credible....
Anoushik
Dan, on the article you provided it says that the websites removed are only from Google.de and Google.fr and those websites are available on Google.com. (I didn't even know there were Google.de and Google.fr.) So I don't think it's that much of a big deal. And because those websites were deleted only from those two search engines maybe is because the general public in Germany and France complained?
Dan
the general public complained? how does a general public complain? hmm... i don't see a procedure for filing a "general public" complaint... and yes, it's google.de and google.fr, but still? i am sure google.fr has some anti-armenian websites.... of course, google's free to do whatever the hell they want, but it doesn't mean that there were good reasons for doing it. google is a search engine that has based its fame on its search results, no? and now i think it's time that people spread the word about how it's deleting certain websites that it doesn't like..... stormfront, etc. are HUGE websites.... i mean, it's not a matter of 475,000 search results, it's a matter of finding the thing one is looking for.... if google is a search engine that caters to specific groups with specific views and political correctness, then it should say so.... France censors Turkish websites that deny the Armenian Genocide - tete de turc being one - this after the resolution was passed in the French parliament a few years ago. I'm not bringing it forth as anything other than the fact itself. I don't really remember the mechanisms - but it was so.

I'm not bringing it forth as anything other than the fact itself. I don't really remember the mechanisms - but it was so. Stormig, France can only censor french-based websites on the Armenian genocide. we're talking about the international nature of the search results on google and what google includes in its results. For example, see the last entry on this page: http://www.google.fr/search?q=armenian+gen...=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 that's from google.fr ... some of the documents on that page are: "Armenian Forgeries and Falsifications" <<< sounds denialist to me.. so why just remove the jewish holocaust denialist websites? same laws, different nationalities/races => different application of the law. "A Myth of Terror" "Perpetuating the Genocide Myth" "The Massacre of Khojaly: Armenia's Crime Against Humanity"
Dan
i'll tell you what, Stormig, go to google.fr and do a search with the keyword "tete de turc" and tell me what you come up with.

axel
Well, it did. Once upon a time. In your dreams, ma chérie. The french republic doesn't give a damn about the armenians and the Genocide. Gilles Veinstein, well known for his negationist views, wouldn't have been named professor at prestigious Collège de France otherwise. Actually there has been a recent proposal for the law you made a reference to to be extended so as to make the denial of the armenian genocide penally sanctionable. The amendment was rejected. One deputy, Pascal Clément observed that putting the armenian genocide on the same level as the Shoah would amount to insulting the jewish people.
Dan
sheeesh, let everyone speak their mind.. why do you need laws to ban material that questions the truth behind something? if you know it's happened, there's nothing to be afraid of, no??? as long as it's not encouraging violence towards Armenians or any other group, i don't see why they should be censored in any way... i mean yeah, i'm all for the Armenian genocide recognition, but ........ that's definitely not the way to go!!!! Sip
Google has always been a biased search engine ... that's what made it good. It was able to distinguish between crap and non crap hits to a search query. So what is crap and non-crap ... I think it's all about the value of the information the site contains... accuracy, correctness, completeness, usefulness, etc etc Now this is a very interesting topic you bring up Dan ... But I think in the end, a search engine is useless to me if it's just a dumb search engine ... anyone can come up with a crawler that crawls the web and indexes every single term and phrase ... The value of a search engine is not in whether it can find matches to my request ... the value of a search engine is in its ability to be able to find what I am looking for! For now, I have been very happy with google and will continue to use it.

Try to search for similar sites in the french versions of yahoo or lycos and so on any you will find the same thing. Similarly there are no Nazi related artifacts allowable on the French or German ebay sites since it is a criminal offense to sell such objects or even to depict pictures of them. Way back in the early 1990s (or was it the late 80s!) the very first proper 3d first-person shoot-em-up computer game, "Castle Wolfenstein" (the predecessor of the ground-breaking "Doom") was banned in Germany for that same reason. Dan
Sip, a while back, I found a website for which I had not been specifically looking... that is, I didn't type in that website's name in order to find its address.. that's not why I use search engines... it's about typing a keyword and getting all the relevant results listed.. for example, do you agree that a website that advocates White pride (without advocating violence against non-Whites) is perfectly fine to be listed? I mean, why is it OK to list websites about gay pride, black pride, etc., and not White pride? are there double standards? i see, because White pride == Nazism? Steve, neo-fascist -- yes.. that's what censorship is all about. Funny how they want to censor the people they call Nazis and Fascists (White pride website owners, etc.) but they're acting like fascists themselves... hypocritical, eh? I personally don't think those websites are crap.. one of them actually has close to 25,000 members...... Instead, what they might want to do to filter out crap is not allow illegal drug sales ads... but I suppose when it's about money, it's about money.. heh... but funny thing is, if you do a search with the keywords they've supposedly banned, in the search results, you get a link to the Yahoo directory which also links to that website lol..!!!! haha... ahh well..
