Guest fackit
For some who dont know what Peyote is, it is a small flower that grows on certain types of cactus or cacti I should say. The native Americans and other tribes used to do it and still do. Ive heard it helps you communicate with the gods and think more clearly, an escape from your everday life. Not that I wanna try, Im just curious, has anyone tried it?

Garabed2
I tried it about 25 years ago and got very sick to my stomach from all the sticknine that was not cleaned out properly. After I was finished with the vomiting I was high as a kite for 4 or 5 hours. If I was to consider ever getting high again I would not use Peyote. sev-mard
Yeah you eat it from what i hear. The downside(or upside if it's your thing) is that you can be high for even two to three days! But it's what the shamans used to be on and is usually quite strong, audio and visual hallucinations and like. Never tried it, it's too much for a quite cat like myself, but it's way out there from what I hear.
Vayri7X
IMO, peyote is best used with what is known as a " sitter"; someone who can be trusted and who is familiar with the effects and skilled at navigating extrememly intense mindscapes. Being raised in areas in N. america with high Native populations , I always saw it as no different than communion for Catholics. Intresting note: there is a substance called Ibogaine out of W. Africa that is one of the strongest hallucinogens known ( ayahuasca and DMT being similarly strong). In Europe and elsewhere, psychologists specializing in treating drug addiction and phobias have used Ibogaine to successfully treat the strongest of addictions - and phobias. Heroin and opium users have been treated with Ibogaine and psychotherapy- very, very successfully. it is commonly said that Ibogaine is like having 10 yersof therapy in around 2 hours. I think the word comes from a Dahomean word fro god =" Ibo"
vava
Interesting Vayri - but I'm sure their have been very few clinical studies on the long-term effects of these substances (Ibogaine). Until there are, I wouldn't touch it - addicted to heroin or not! Don't forget just a few years ago (err.. well, the seventies) they were prescribing MDA/MDMA with psychotherapy for the treatment all sorts of mental illnesses - it wasn't 'till people starting having problems with their nervous systems, spinal fluid - (leading to paralysis in some cases!) that the FDA banned the substance! BTW if any of you take 'e' / ecstasy - it's the same stuff... Edit: Actually, a brief search on google turned up some interesting resources on studies (even some in vivo) on Ibogaine. Some of this stuff dates back to 1995 - although I didn't have time to verify the publications, I think there might be some more depth there than I imagined.... Dan
BTW if any of you take 'e' / ecstasy - it's the same stuff... i am a bit confused here, are we talking about peyote and E, or something else? lol, that's my ADHD brain.. i can't read all the lines in your posts, cos I'm just suffering from lack of concentration right now.. did you mean that Peyote is the same as/similar to E??? vava
no, no, Dan... I meant E is a crude form of MDA, or MDMA depending on who mixed it in their basement.
Dan
oh, ok... lol... that clears it up then.
Hyeflyer
I tried it about 30 years ago. You eat the small fruit below the flower after it wilts and drops off. You core it with a pocket knife and chew it and swallow the juice and spit out the pulp. Then in around 10 or so minutes you vomit stand up strait and see all kind of stuff. I didn't see god but I did see the wind and heard the vibrations of the cosmos. It was a right of passage thing. If you are having ANY kind of drama in your life that is not the time to take it, it will only intensify your phsyo problems.
