What do you guys belive the word Americanized means toward Armenians. For instance what makes an Armenian americanized, I'm just curious, because I was talking with a group of people, and they think that I'm a FOB because I listein to armenian music and keep traditonal values and I want to wait until marriage to have sex, and in my oppnion I consider them americanized because they don't act armenian and kind brush off that they are, so I am kinda confused and I dont think I'm a fob,. Edited by SirumemKez20

babe your not a fob youre just yourself and dont listen to bull-poop like that-americanized doesnt mean that you dont listen to armenian music and dont have traditional values..in other words you can be americanized in other ways like your thinking and acting but not necessarily youre taste in music..hey i sometimes listen to armenian music and like certain traditional armenian values but theres a limit to all of it and doesnt make me a fob or any less "americanized" than any other person--there are alot of white people i know of that believe in promiscuity and that doesnt mean that they are fobs---i really dont like this overgeneralization and classification of terms--fob/americanized...blah blah blah we are all victims to these terms but no one is completely one or the other....people can just be who they are and choose not to identify with any particular "label" lets just say....

For me an "Americanized" Armenian is one who has integrated into American society. This can be done while still keeping in touch with your culture in terms of language, music, foods, etc.

It's being familiar with the American lifestyle and mentality. Some fools think it's not being familiar with the Armenian one.

Fresh Off the Boat is commonly used to discribe Asian emigrants and their 'backward' attitude. Depending on which segments of the American society we are talking about 'Americanized' may mean different things. I don't feel any particular pressures of being 'Americanized', because although my lifestyle back home was different, it was not that different. :)

It has to do with worldview.

You can be an American in "heart and soul" and still speak Armenian and be learned about our culture and history. Or you can hang on to the worldview you were socialized with in your former nation of residence. It has little to do with outward appearance or the "toys" you play with, e.g. the BMW you may drive or the thoroughly modern American home you may live in within Glendale or wherever. It is all about what you believe (between your ears) about society.

There is really not one American worldview but two oppposing ones with a myriad of subviews. Both, however, sit under an umbrella of the American approach to life fostered by the Founding Fathers 217 years ago. The Bush adminstration, however, wants to put an end to all this and turn the US into a theocracy.

if it makes you feel better, I listen to TATOUL... which A LOT of people criticize... calling him a turkish copycat etc... But I personally like him... and dont give a rats ass about what they say.

anyway, be yourself, do what you feel is right... that's what makes you unique and what makes you who you are.... & to top it off, it makes you stronger.
