Rubo
Hi Paul.Dick Gephardt is a friend to Armenian issues. His got my vote for sure. This is from an Azeri site. Note that most republicans are against Armenian caucus In sharp contrast to the Republican Congressionalleadership's growing opposition to Armenian issues, theDemocratic leadership has continued to broaden its outreachto Armenia and the Armenian American community. Last month,at the request of Adam Schiff, the Democratic Congressionalcandidate for California 27th District, Democratic Leader Dick Gephardt (Mo.)and Democratic Whip David Bonior (Mich.)were joined by the rest of the House Democratic Leadershipin meeting with Armenian President Robert Kocharian duringhis visit to Washington. Also taking part in the hour-longmeeting were Congressmen Martin Frost (Texas), Bob Menendez(NJ), Patrick Kennedy (RI), Frank Pallone (NJ), and JoeHoeffel (Pa.). The House Republican leadership, according to sources onCapitol Hill, refused repeated requests to schedule ameeting with the visiting Armenian President. InternationalRelations Committee Chairman Ben Gilman did take part in agroup meeting with President Kocharian organized by theArmenian Caucus, but did not explain why he has decidedagainst scheduling a Committee vote on the Armenian Genocideresolution (H.Res.398). ASSEMBLY CONGRATULATES CONGRESSWOMAN PELOSI ON NEW ROLE AS HOUSE MINORITY WHIP WASHINGTON - The Armenian Assembly of America today congratulated long-time supporter Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on her election as the new House Minority Whip. House Democrats chose Congresswoman Pelosi for the second highest position over fellow Armenia ally Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD). The election was held to replace outgoing Minority Whip Congressman David Bonior (D-MI) who plans to run for Governor of Michigan and will step down from his current post on January 15, 2002. Pelosi's victory makes her the House Democrats' chief vote counter and lieutenant to Minority Leader Congressman Dick Gephardt (D-MO). "We congratulate Congresswoman Pelosi on her election as the new House Minority Whip," said Assembly Government Relations Director Bryan Ardouny. "Congresswoman Pelosi has championed Armenian issues from leading the fight to maintain Section 907 to affirming the Armenian Genocide. During her tenure as the Ranking Member of the House Foreign Operations Subcommittee, her leadership was crucial in ensuring robust funding for Armenia, aid to Nagorno Karabagh and the preservation of Section 907." The website will help expand the organization's outreach to the nation's increasingly active Armenian American community. Specifically, the site will be used to help spearhead the organization's "Take Back The House in 2002" campaign. "For the next 22 months leading up to the November 2002 elections, one of our key goals will be to help Minority Leader Dick Gephardt take the gavel from Speaker Dennis J. Hastert," said an AADLC spokesperson. "Our new website is a critical part of this effort." From Armenian democratic caucus. From Armenian democratic caucus. Note that speaker republican Dennis Hastert reversed his position on AG resolution which ultimately killed the bill.
khodja
HELLO!!!!!!HELLO!!!!!! So it is obvious to the Azeris who it is that are our friends. Unfortunately it is not obvious to many self-serving Armenian-Americans who are more concerned about personal issues than they are about Armenian issues. We have a Democratic 1/2 Armenian, 1/2 Assyrian Congresswoman who is rarely spoken about, but the 1/4 Armenian, 3/4 Irish Republican Congressman is foisted upon a pedestal. I have been spit upon by Armenians for my political beliefs and I am a very moderate Armenian-American well known in the community where I was raised for my fervent patrotism toward America. It is time for Armenians to wake up, support those who support us and break down barriers between us and other ethnic and religious groups. First off, we can increase our solidarity with the Jews who have experienced a history similar to ours. I view the extensive intermarriage of my family with Jews as a badge of honor, not a mark of shame. Our church hierarchy is mainly to blame for this self-defeating approach. I too , am proud of my friendships with my Armenian friends throughout the years, and feel comfortable and welcome by your people. I've even been to many of your gatherings, such as in Cape Cod.
