oh boy. What I am going to say may reveal a lot about me and may scare Armat to hire professionals to do his work. :)

I have fallen off of a ladder and the roof of a greenhouse we use to have 4 times. And have had many bruises and even few scares on the head. :) :) :) Thank God I am still normal. hahahaha

Why do I get a feeling this barn raisin is going to end up being like a bad 3 stooges episode? We'll have to get Thoth to bring his video camera for this event.

I am happy to say I've never fallen from a ladder ... I've only fallen twice really bad (other than during childhood) ... one time from my bike (in germany when I was about 14) ... the front wheel bent in half and locked up and I went flying down a dirt hill and broke my shoulder. We didn't know for two days it was broken :D But after my mom noticed it "looked" odd, we had x-rays taken and long story short, I ended up in the hospital for a week after the surgery.

The other time was while carrying my skis going down some steps when I wiped out on a big patch of ice and landed on my back on the edge of the stairs. Could easily have snapped my spine but nothing happened! I couldn't move for a few seconds but the odd thing was I was laughing :)

well since we're talkin abou bad falls now....

When I was about 9-10 riding my bike down a steep (fast) hill (in Armenia) I lost the brakes. In hindsight I should have just fallen off, but thought I could 'steer' myself to safety. Anyhow, ended up smashing into a tree (at great speed)....immediatelly behind which was a very busy road and then a stone wall (LOL). Parents diagnosis was that my wrist was NOT broken, because I could move it....be it with great pain. Two weeks later, wrist not getting better, go to hospital...doctor has a look at wrist....private talk with dad....next thing I know he asks me to put hand on edge of table with wrist just over the edge. He breaks my wrist AGAIN (LOL) and puts it back in the right place.....

Oh this (the ladders) reminds me!!!!

One time I had wired up a big 300W light in the backyard on top of the garage. My brother was on top of the ladder trying to paint the mount I'd made for the light. It was an odd angle so I was holding the ladder, he had one hand one a metal pole that goes into the ground to the side and the other hand painting the light.

All of a sudden he let out this big screech and his whole body wiggled ... almost flying down the ladder :D I couldn't believe it! So to make a long story short, it ended up that I had accidentally wired the ground wire of the light to the hot wire in the garage (the other side of the wall) so basically the whole metal enclosure of the light was HOT! When he accidentally touched it with his hand, and with the other hand being on the metal pole, well you know...

But to my defense, it wasn't my fault. The wiring the previous owner had done was totally screwey. So he had basically used the ground wire as another hot circuit to save on wiring I guess

I am not sure if I have ever been electrocuted either. I am pretty sure I have not.

Our house was right next to a small hill about 45 degrees for about 50-60 meters. we were on the bottom of the hill but had few neighbors on the top and they would walk that hill daily. Wintertime they would daily put sand on the snow so they would not fall down, but the sand would slow down the kids as we were flying down the hill in our sleds.

Each night I would go out and hose the hill without telling anyone so there would be a nice ice for us next morning. We never broke anything, but one of our old neighbors(50-60) year old woman fell on the ice one one of those mornings and broke her arm in 2 places. But even then I did not stop my practice of watering the hill down. I was a bad bad person. :)

don't let me start on accidents. i'm the biggest 'Dzaxort Panos' there is.

10-20 falls from bicycle, 2 rollings from top to bottom on a concret stairs, 20-30 horrible mtashes on aspholte while playing foolball or while jumping off the swing, 3 fallings from the tree, bumping my head gazillon times (a few times really really bad), cutting my pinky on table saw (not completely), hammering my fingers millions of times, getting electrocuted a few times (the first time when i was only 2), and on and on.

the broken leg, arm, nose, scars on my chin, ankles, knees, shoulders, head are all solid prooves of this.

no wonder people say i'm quite weird.

When I was a kid I once fell from the bycicle in a way that I don't think anyone has fallen. The front wheel of my bycicle went off and I jumped over it and landed on the ground right on my nose. My nose was bleeding non-stop for a while but no other parts of my face were injured. Sometimes having a big nose is a good thing.

Reading all of you makes me more determined to do it right and do it all by myself. There is something meaningful and challenging doing things your own. What is life anyway if we have to have everything done by others? Now I am not talking about a surgery but building things. I guess it is a guy thing, every time I go to Home Depot I just drool over the tools, circular saws, screws, lumber hey it’s like being a kid all over again.

Humm, I am not alone. I have a weekness for browsing for hours home depot, hardware stores in general (actually car parts, electronics and computer stores also). I also enjoy working on my (or others) car. I haven't done construction work though for many years, would like to do it again. Sometimes I think of getting a weekend job in construction for fun.

Sasun & Armat - that makes at least three of us... I avoid home depot simply because I cannot leave the damn place.... :) Often though we lack the time/place to do some handy work. I've often thought of establishing a cooperative workshop/woodshop close to the core of the city - with all these condos going up, and young men like myself in condos/apartments with nowhere to build tables/cabinets whatever have you... I think it could be a success. We could even have weekly instructors and building gurus come in for workshops/training...The only kink in the plan is would be the insurance costs I think. Even with disclaimers, anytime untrained people are operating power tools... :o

:) Empty pool? :D

I have always wanted to learn to weld ... all sort of welding ... MIG, TIG ... aluminum etc. Hopefully one day I'll be able to have time to take some classes ... and hopefully there'll be some hot chicks in those classes .... and hopefully the instructor will also be a hot chick. B)

Hi guys I have a real dilemma and I am hoping there are some engineering guys here who can help.

I am building a small studio in my backyard 10x12 two stories high. The height will be 15 feet. The foundation will not be permanent that is no digging concrete polls. I am planning to build this studio on three 4x4 12 feet in length and resting on one-inch concrete blocks distributed in nine places. The weight of the building I estimate would be two ton.

Here is my problem. The building will be built on these skids and I wonder if a strong wind will not move it.

I figure one could perhaps calculate the height, the width, length and the weight and find the answer to question- in what velocity of the wind the building will move.( by moving I mean even few inches which is enough to dislodge it from the skids) Anyone? Thanks in advance.

I have the perfect solution for you. What if, you build it underground, you won't have all those troubles. Right? ;)
