Hye_Acher
Has anyone read "MARON" by Hovhannes Tumanian? If so what do you think? What is the message Tumanian wants his readers to receive? I am assuming that every writer when writes a story, want some kind of massage to be delivered to the reader...... I Love "MARON"!!! I can read it many times a day and still want to read some more. I don’t really understand what he wants us to learn from it or think about. MARONHye-AcherPerhaps you can tell us what is that fascinates you about MARON?Do you find it relevant to your personal reality?THere are a lot cultural peculiarities that can be taken individually, such as very young marriage, a father's anxiousness to have his daughter leave the home etc. BTW. Ladies and gentlemen, what font ans system have you been using above, I can't read them, all I see is a million small swuares. My system is setup to read and write in ARM-FONT but I ca't figure out the above by Sasun and Harut.

I just love MARON because I like the way Tumanian described, expressed such a big part of our lives in a neat and beautiful way. I like the way he presented the nature, characters, our tradition and etc. I was very bitter when she died at the end, (of course) but I went back and read over and over again. Then I realized what Tumanian was trying to do is ------to tell our fellow Armenians not to make the same mistake, because when they come to realization then it is going too late. To this day I can’t believe that there are such things existed among our fellow Armenians. I believe who ever reads MARON wont make the same mistake (HOPEFULLY). I believe he did the same thing in ANUSH, GIQOR, XRJITUM and etc…
Azat
Arpa jan, you should get that fixed because Harut and Sasun are talking about you in all those posts. I can help as only 3-4 days ago I was unable to read it as well and the HyeForum Tech Support person(Harut) assisted me in setting it up as well. I assume you run XP as these instructions will be for XP(if not we have to give you different instructions)(and hope you don't mind that they are in Armenian using the same font as Harut and Sasun ) 1. Click on Start->Control Panel->Regional and Language Options2. Select the second tab ("Languages") on the page that comes up. 3. Make sure that the 1st check-box ("Install Files for Complex Script and right to left languages") in the middle of that page is selected.4. XP will ask you to insert your XP disk in the cd. You may also have the files in your windows directory. Check "C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS"5. you have to reboot the system at the end. At this time you will be able to read and write in Armenian. You may also choose to add Armenian to your language settings to allow you to switch from Armenian to English with the click of a button. After the initial installation do the following.1. Click on Start->Control Panel->Regional and Language Options2. Select the second tab ("Languages") on the page that comes up. 3. Click on the "Details" button.4. Click on the "Add" button5. Select Armenian from the listand apply. you are set to se all the nasty things that Harutik and Sasunik wrote about you and don't worry I know where they live if we need to go and see them in person. Arpa
GOOD!!I'm glad that you view the poem in it's artistic, esthetic and cultural nature.Yes, it is disturbing when you consider where he has a scene describing how they went swimming in the "tklor" (erkser?)childishly innocent, yet that innocence was abruptly interrupted when Maro had to leave all her childhood friends and playmates. Not to forget that Tumanian could have been extra sensitive abot the issue since he had a dozen children of both sexes and at the age in question. When we read and hear these stories sometime we may forget that most of Tumanian's subjects are teenagers or even preteens. AKhthamar is one, Anush etc. At times we fail to see how young these tragic lovers are because we are accustomed to view them as presented in drama, i.e when 50+ Gohar and 60+ Armenak play Anush and Saro we take it for granted that those dramatis personnae are mature people.Yes, Tumanian is a powerful commentator on the culture of his time and we can find his criticism in drama as well as comedy. Many points can be made about Maro, one of which is the male dominated- father, brother, fiancee etc. -culture of the time. Has it changed?
