I have too many to list but the top few are Corsendonk Monks Brown Ale(Belgium)Stone Pale Ale (California)Brasserie Rochefort(Belgium)Sierra Pal Ale (California)Apricot Wheat Ale by Pyramid(I think seattle, but not sure)Spaten Lager(Munich Germany) Also have any of you made the pilgrimage to Oktoberfest in Munich? Some of them taste horrbile while a few are really good. Here's a list of some of the ones I got: annuals I really liked BAVARIAN LAGER so far but I'll let you know after I'm done with the whole thing Talking of Bavarian, went to a German restaurant in Milwaukee yesterday to meet a friend and his wife ... I liked the "Munchener-Dunkel" (dark) better. But there was something about that Bavarian Lager ... it was a hot day and I had been working on the car and was really thirsty ... so I just popped it open and downed the whole thing in one breath so it felt and tasted REALLY good. I have very much been into IPA and similar "hoppy" beers...though I love many different types. So I would say that (righ now) my favorites are: Victory Hop DevilStone Ruination AleStone Arrogant bastard Ale (OK not an IPA - but damn good stuff)Dominion Hop Pocket AleDominion Hop Pocket PilsSierra Nevada Pale AleStone IPA Also very much like Pilsner Urquell, Bass Ale, Guiness, Stone Smoked Porter, Negra Modello, Bohemia, Becks lager, Celebrator Doublebock...etc etc (this list could go on for pages I think...LOL) Oh and Efes Pilsen (Turkish) ain't all bad either...pretty decent styuff for a refreshing quaff...never had Kotayk yet (and I must give it a try)... THOTH Posted September 15, 2003 Report Share Posted September 15, 2003 Checked out the list - they are "summer" beers - so perhaps not an all inclusive...and who knows really the criteria/scope etc. I did notice a few things - the #3 is from Victory...a Wiess beer (seems like this ranking is dominated by such) - they are quite light and distinctive...some folks don't at all like this type of beer - i am into them if in the mood - though not my fav...but Victory is just a top brewer in general - Hop Devil is just awesome stuff... The Lagunitus Maximus is great stuff - perhaps should have been on my initial list... I notice a Dominion on there as well - summer wheat (its OK I guess...doewsn't overly thrill me) Stoudts (on the list) ussually makes pretty good stuff... Most of these are real micro-brews and unlikely to be available to everyone (even here in the States). I'm sure that they are all pretty good/great quality though - and probalby worth seeking out (if you are into the wheat beers...) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I even like most of the Sam Adams. England of course has a number of excellent beers, I am partial to Ales so the whole range of Samuel Smith comes to mind, Double Diamond, Bass, Young´s, Newcastle and the list goes on and on. Belgium is also a major beer country and I very much recommend the Chimay Cinq Cents, Corsendonk is very good as well, Leffe is another, the interestinlgy named Delirium Tremens açbut there are so many good beers in Belgium...Canada also has it share of good beers: I stronlgy recommend St Ambroise an incredibe ale from Québec, also Maudite, Satan and a few others. Switzeralnd has dozens of small breweries, I had a chance to sample a few at the Zurich train station of all places, there is the more widely known Samichlaus, a very strong seasonal beer. France has its interesting beers as well such as the various Fischer and Jenlain . Pilseners and lagers: Urquell another classic from the Czech Republic (from Plzen), Harp, Sapporo, even Heineken on a very hot day. Of course Germany with all its regional beers offers variety, but not to my taste... Sorry Winston but Efes is p**swater. Hmm Belgian Lambics - can be very nice...and Anchor Steam (in its various permutations - very good stuff...if you like it yeasty of course...) And Fischer is about the only French beer that I've liked - used to drink it quite a bit...not familiar with your Quebec or Swiss beers though...(but always interested in trying out something new..) And Sam Smith (various...Oatmeal Stout - yummy!) & Youngs. (How about Mcewans?)...used to like Newcastle (brown) more then I do now...but compared to the hoppy stuff I'm inot now it is much like route beer (or just too bland in general)...and i find most Sam Adams's a bit too sweet - but OK drinking I guess - just nothing special... And of course the Belguims - Chimay & Delerium Tremens (have some of both in the house right now..thoguh I have all sorts of beer down in teh cellar - many micros and practicaly the whol Stone line including some of the "vertical" line - meant to be aged & such)...and a whole bunch of stuff I can't even remember right now....(you'll just have to check it out when/if you are ever in town...of course I think you'll be more glued to/interested in the wine thats in my cellar! Its not bad - but not my fave... And Efes Pilsen drinks rather well on a hot day i think...sure its not world calss or anything (as many Turks would have you believe) - but quite pleasent really IMO... Steve Never had canned Efes - only bottles (but that statement is perhaps a truism for beer...rarely is it as good in a can) And I recently drank a "smoked" Porter from Stone (a Microbrew from San Diego California - quite good)...but have never had nor heard of one before. (though draught beer in Turkey is hard to find outside of magor cities - anywhere else pubs / bars (or whatever the Turks call then) are generally hidden away up alleys or in the upper floors of buildings. I did once read a review of a beer that was described as a "German smoked beer" - the reviewer said it was the worst beer he had ever tasted! Couldn't have been the beer I had! If I had to choose two beers they would be Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Anchor Steam, they can be drunk any season and have a wonderful taste. I just remembered a special Ale I drunk in London with chamomile, it really made me sleepy on both counts. I had just flown in from the Islamc Republic of Iran... After finishing the whole case, the American goes: - So, how would you like the beer? - It's like having sex in a canoe! says the Englishman -What you mean?!? -It is too close to the water!
