mmmm....checked out some of her latest pics, she seems to be going downhill FAST (looks).

Accelerated, Natalie Portman in not THAT attractive - not in that picture anyway! She's soooo girly. LOL And I don't like her all-innocent smile.

But I DO like what she's wearing in that picture. B)

Dan, Gamovour - you should notice that both Blade Runner and Brazil are on my list!

I have the full Criterion 4(?) disc set of Brazil that Gilliam released with the three different versions of the film - released (cut) version, the version the studio wanted (with the happy ending...truly surreal) and Gilliams original (long) cut (the one to truly watch)...I also have the book about the controversy with him and the stusio. He is (one of) my heros(s)!

And of course Blade Runner is taken from the Phillip K Dick story - "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" - Dick being one of my fav authors as well (RIP)

Oh! My bad! LOL. Was just skimming through the replies, and since yours was in a paragraph, I noticed some of the movie titles while didn't catch the Blade Runner one. :)

I haven't read "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" But I will do so soon. I'm not a big fan of written sci-fi. I just love watching sci-fi movies, and Blade Runner is my favourite sci-fi movie, up till now. VERY meaningful, unlike some of the "great" movies we're being shown...

I am yet to find a soundtrack of the Blade Runner movie by Vangelis.

And oh, I know some people absolutely HATE Titanic and laugh at me when I tell them I love it, but I really think it's a good movie. It's not that I like the theme, I like the cinematography and the way the story is told. VERY creative. I also like Pearl Harbor (some cute guys in it LOL ;) )

The Shawshank Redemption is also a good one - I love the ending.

Hmmmm, I'm trying to decide whether Blade Runner should come first on my list of best movies or The Thin Red Line. But I think I'm gonna go with The Thin Red Line. It's a MUST see!!!

Well, ummmmm, OK, but she's still not attractive. She doesn't look mature. Like, I'd say Juliette Binoche is beautiful, despite her age, but Natalie Portman?!!

Oh, Domino, where art thou? LOL

Domino, since you speak french, I think you'll get a kick out 'le Diner des Cons' It is absolutely hilarious. I nearly wet my shorts.

hehe, i think i saw this one too.

isn't it about a group of friends who want to make an idiot out of someone?

Yeah Harut, - that's the one...

The idea is, a group of friends have a dinner party, and each one is to invite a 'con' (an idiot). They all get together and laugh at the expense of the idiots - and of course the person who brings the biggest idiot, wins! :lol2:

Edit: Sorry Domino, I didn't realise you had already posted the synopsis!

Thoth,

I haven't seen the short version, but the whole point (actually there are so many points:)) of this movie is exactly as it was initially conceived by the director. As far as I remember the viewer had the right to choose the ending.

Brazil is not just a movie. It is a piece of art, science, sociology, ecology, history, philosophy, and anything else that is part of human and unhuman life and even beyond that. I remember reading some critiques about the movie and all the "professional" movie goers and experts were just speechless. :)

Hello All

I was flying to Montréal on American airlines 3 years ago, and feture movie was the RED VIOLIN

As I was carried away with a movie with a passion after it ended I started clapping, to my amusement I was among few who done so, I think this Movie is my all times favorites, and one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Did anyone saw AND THE ALL MORNINGS OF THE WORLD?? Starring Gerard De Perdue.

Three movies which have really made me think:

1) The Truman Show

2) Matrix

3) Quiz Show

People often get distracted by all the cool visual effects of Matrix but I thought the plot really kicked arse. Matrix 2 is coming out very soon and from what I saw from the trailer, it's going to be extremely spectacular in terms of effects but the plot didn't strike me as having anything too new ... just a bunch of ultra-cool fight scenes.

So many movies, and so little time to watch them... You guys listed some movies I should seriously get down to watching only because I've never heard of them.

One of my cousins lent me Gattaca and The Matrix almost two years ago. I started watching them but never got passed 20 minutes. I guess I should try again...

I watched The Beach on TV last night. Hmmm. Not sure whether I liked the book or movie better... I guess both had good scenes and bad ones. Overall I didn't like either very much... I also watched this Austrian movie called Nogo, which was captivating, IMO, until the very end, except the very very end, which I found a little disappointing. Just now, I finished watching Analyze This for the second time. Cute, but, aye... no, definitely not a fav.

I agree with Nairi on both Gattaca and The Matrix. I have only seen few minutes of each and could not stand the pain of watching more.

Thoth, did you ever see "A Fish Called Wanda". I found it to be a great movie as well. Somewhat Pythonesc.

The Matrix doesn't really start to make sense until the very ends. But you have to have enough patience to put up with Keanu's bull-shit acting and the really fancy razzle dazzle special effects ... I personally thought the plot was very thought provoking ... of course there are details that are just there for the drama/excitement factor.

Nairi, I would recommend you start with South Park. That movie is simply brilliant and I don't think it got the acclaim it really deserved. People just look at it as a dumb cartoon but it's obvious there is some brains behind it! Impressive stuff ... of course they did give into some stupid cliche's like the tired old Bill Gates bashing. :(

... but the first time I saw it, I literally cried at the "shut your f***ing face uncle f***er" musical number. I didn't even see the second half ... basically the part after the canadian traffic cop starts farting to the music. Anyway, it may sound like it's just childish immature stuff but there is a lot more going on than just the superficial fart jokes and foul language.

Azat - of course - A Fish called Wanda is an excellent movie and it includes Micheal Palin and John Cleese from Python...(I was just laughing about this very movie with some friends the other day...the scenes where palin is killing the ladies dogs and he is such an animal lover...and the character (Jamie Curtis's Brother)..forgot his name (great actor)..."I'm not stupid" etc...reading Nietche etc...

And I was hooked on the Matrix from second one and think it was a great movie (can't wait for the sequels)...and if one cannot get inot Gattica then one just lacks an appreciation for some of the very real potential dangers of/in our future...though I guess I could understand someone finding the movie a bit slow...but I thought it was well acted and presented and that the subject matter was/is very relevant...
