It's been ages since I read these books (not all seven, i think I began with 'the Lion, the Witch....') But I don't think I have ever thought of them again. Those stories were buried in some sort of childhood memory bank that I haven't accessed since. Man, I'm going through some heavy bouts of nostalgia after going through those sites, Stormy - thanks for bringing back the memories. Can't wait 'till the movie... In fact, I owned the whole set and gave them to my cousins. Maybe it is time to ask for them back. I have even called this one tall, skinny, boney guy a "marshwiggle," with reference to a character in one of the volumes, quite recently actually. I miss those too. I never heared of Narnia before. Strange, I thought I was knowledgable in these things. I would like to see Fraggles again. Does anyone else remember them? I definitely miss those tacky French animated cartoons. "Il était une fois... , Les Mondes Engloutis, Funky Cops, Clémentine, Les Mystérieuses Cités d'Or, Twins of Destiny, etc. Not to mention that cool Japanese/French animated series Ulysses 31. Or "Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque", lol I lost track of the countless Japanese cartoons that I definitely would like to watch again Captain Future, Albator, Tao Tao... Really cool books that had more layers as you got older and could better understand some the religious overtones inlayed in them. As for Japanese anime as a child, did you guys watch Robotech? There was a Nintendo ad in AMC theatres last year with lot of children running and stuff. Do you know who's singing in the soundtrack? It's a Japanese female singer...Maybe it's a group? Only better to understand where the authors' had nicked their ideas from maybe. I think that realising they are not just the pure imagination of the authors' actually makes them less pleasurable to read. About the religious overtones, I had mentioned under a different subject a while ago that The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe was just a reworking of the True Cross story. bellthecat Posted September 14, 2004 Report Share Posted September 14, 2004 Though, actually, I think it is only obviously Christian to either ardent Christians, or those with little or no cultural connections to a Christian society. For the dwindling number of people (like myself) who grew up within a Christian society but were by choice not actually Christians, they could read and enjoy it without any of those cultural hang-ups. When I was reading them as a child I never noticed any Christian content, apart from the odious Aslan who fortunately only made brief appearances. I was given a copy of "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" when I was about four. Which was way to young to actually read it, so I just left it in a cupboard. Then, a lifetime later, when I was six, I rediscovered it and spend all summer reading it, hidden away in a little hut that I had made in the garden. And I remember remembering that book on the first time I went abroad alone, on a long train journey all the way to Turkey and beyond, while gazing out of the window like the characters in the book gaze down into the seas as they travel endlessly on and on.
