MJ
Ali, To the best of my understanding, you are a member with equal rights with the Armenian members of this forum, and I don't see why would you need confirmation from the Armenian members as to post a material which you thing is appropriate. ThornyRose
No problem, Ali. I'll think about it (but no promises). By the way, how many kazıks do the two volumes come down to?Say, I was wondering... Do you know anybody who can give me advice about going to Erzurum, Kars, etc., in mid-January? (Not for skiing.) I asked my elder maternal uncle who I thought would be help (since he's a tour guide and might have contacts even if he didn't know himself), but he just made a tart reply like, "Couldn't you find a better season to go?" I need to get that advice from somebody who has gone there fairly recently, if possible. How accessible roads are, etc. School-mates so far haven't been of much help... Maybe I haven't asked around enough!

khodja
Ali, I would be very interested in this information. It is to the Turks honor that they have included Armenians in this study. I have no doubt that my ancestors are included. If you remember the the American TV series "Roots" you will understand what this will mean to those of us whose roots were cut off. My parents did not want to discuss these things. It was much too painful for them. Those of us in the next genration can look at this more objectively. Could you place a list of names of Armenians included here in this Forum? Since my ancestor has been included in an earlier list of Armenians in the Ottoman government divulged by the Turkish Information Ministry which only included approximately 20 names, I am sure than some of my relatives are discussed in this new book. khodja
MJ, I do not want to continue my verbal battle with you. Suffice it to say that I will be ending my affiliation with the AAA very soon. I will be strenghthening my affiliations with the ANC. I am sure that for you it the trend will be will the opposite. This does not have to do with TARC, but with the close affiliation that the AAA has with the current US Administration. Although a Democrat, I would have been very proud if John McCain were the US President. He would have made a great wartime President. I only ask that you be more specific as to which statement you responded to in another forum, that you claim was a lie and to which you claim I responded to with a lie. I do not remember the dialogue.
aurguplu
khodja, i'll do that gladly, just give me some time: 9 month financials (over 300 of them) are arriving this weekend, and i have to enter every single one of them into our company's database. it will take me a few days. after that, i can have some free time. there are way more than 20 armenian names included therein, but these include people from all walks of life. i'll post all of them, then start in an alphabetical fashion to post the entries as i translate them. if you want, you can direct me to some specific names, and i can post them first. cheers,

khodja
MJ was the smartest one here. He knew from the beginning that I was an Armenian. Who else but an Armenian would understand us so thoroughly. No Turk, no matter how learned or perceptive could ever understand the Armenian soul. Now all of you here go ponder what forces in the Armenian community creates persons such as myself.

MJ
Ali, I had understood you properly. I think the reaction your posting would receive would be indicative of the existing interest. One can notice that there are more threads to which no one has replied than those with replies. I personally have very little interest in the non-political history of Armenia or the Ottoman Empire, i.e. my interest is limited to the political history. This has nothing to do with the material that you were thinking of posting. It is just where my interests are. If I have to spend my time on history, I would much rather do it on the history of the evolution of the theological thought.

MJ
Dear Ali, I just want to tell you that I was too tired to dedicate myself over the weekend to the writing of the material I had promised. And now, I am about out the door, again. Hopefully I can do it some other time.

khodja
Dear Ali, When will you complete your financial work? I anxiously await your posting of names of Ottoman Armenians from the newly released book. Thank you for getting out of the line of fire between MJ and myself. It is an internal Armenian matter, namely how much influence should the church have over the daily lives of Armenians worldwide? This issue only periferally impacts Turkish-Armenian relations. Please inform as to your time frame. I wish to understand my roots.
aurguplu
dear khodja, i have recently finished the basic work on the 300+ balance sheets (i had a three-day holiday that i spent in the office, arrgh i hate that!). now there are a few more entries per balance sheet, but these are not urgent, so i will start to write down the names and occupations sometime this weekend, and post them eartly next week, i hope, then, as i had said, i will plow through them in an alphabetical order unless somebody comes up with a special plea and asks me to post info on a specific person. i fear it will take a while, like one person per posting, because you have to translate the thing, and some entries are a few pages long! i may opt out for condensations where i think it is appropriate, but i may also take my time and translate the whole thing at a leisurely pace. i am also planning to break the list down by occupation/career so that if vastly more people are interested in political writers than, say, doctors or vets i can give priority to that category. if you have any suggestions over how i could improve that service, i'd be glad to know. cheers,
khodja
Ali,Thank you for the gargantuan effort that you are making. Could you begin by solely listing names? You could return with a full entry after you receive requests. My interest is in officials of the Ottoman government during the period after the Tanzimat Reforms, the leaders of commerce, the Armenian attorneys (especially those practicing in Istambul (Constantinople, Bolise) and physicians (especially those who gave primary care to the Sultans).
