"The government of Armenia has no right to demand that "ArmenTel" must lay optical cable to the south direction from Megri till iranian town Marand. This question must be decided at the level of the committee of "ArmenTel" directors," – said Nikos Georgulas, the executive manager of telecommunication monopoly of the republic, to the journalist. According to his words, "ArmenTel" has not any obligation of contract with the government of the republic concerning to this question. Georgulas mentioned that the decision about laying of optical cable to Iran could be taken only in that case if the realization of this project will bring to the company the subsidiary earnings. At the same time, according to the CAN agency, Ervand Zakarian, the minister of transportation and communication of Armenia, stated that Megri-Maranda direction must be done by "ArmenTel", and the government of Armenia insist that this project must be taken into their company's business-plan for 2001-2004.
