ARA BALIOZIAN: THE ARMENIAN EINSTEIN

In view of what is happening to ur community, it is quite apparent that our leadership is bankrupt. We need new direction, which will lead us into the future. Many of the old views must be discarded. Ara Baliozian is a beacon of sanity in the sea of mediocrity that is the Armenian leadership.

the only thing Ara Baliozian is capable of is citicizing.

have you ever seen him writing anything progressive?

has he ever suggested anything besides that our crap is like bread and butter for him, and never disagree with an Armenian or you'll make an enemy for a life?

has he ever written any solutions?

has he ever written any suggessions on how to change things to the better side?

Harut,

The first step toward improvement is to come to terms with one's shortcomings.

Baliozian is challenging the Armenian community to look into the negative parts of it's psyche. Have the majority of us been Ottomanized and Sovietized?

My ex-wife would always claim that she was perfect, not needing to change in any way. Raised within the Armenian community, one should not expect any different attitude. I was raised among odars. I can see what is wrong with us from the outside. Baliozian is my guru.

Although Ara Baliozian could hardly qualify as a guru, I agree with hagarag. He honestly says what he thinks and that's often what other Armenians may think but not say openly because of our psyche. But he also exaggerates many things. He should be taken as a staunch critic, as such he is much needed because there are no others like him in the Armenian diaspora. It is true that he doesn't suggest solutions (therefore he cannot be a guru). We should find solutions ourselves.

hagarag

Ara is an artist, he criticise, and he do it well, but we need solutions not only critics.

You know for Socrates there was two important things.

1. Realising something is wrong.

2. Realising something is wrong, doing something to change that.

For Socrates both are important, but the second one in contrast with the first one is the most important. Ara fail in the first category, what ever truthful he may say, the open minded Armenian know it already, it one thing to know the problem exist, but if you don't find any solution or don't try to find any solution, then you are an artist, there is nothing wrong with that, I have fun reading what Ara write, but you can as well criticise, everyone can, we need to change once we know the problem, we know most of the problem...

please note that i have at no time maintained to be a guru.

As for solutions:

i have always asserted that if we use our common sense

and refuse to be taken in by charlatans, we shall have no more problems.

As for Socrates:

we know what happened to him...and it happened

at the very height of Greek civilization, their Golden Age.

Whereas we now live in the lowest depths of our Dark Ages.

If I entertained any political ambitions,

which i don't and never shall,

i doubt if i could survive more than a few seconds.

If any amongst you has political ambitions,

i wish him or her the best of luck;

and if i knew how to pray, i would go down on my knees and stay there for the rest of my natural life.

ara is full of crap
Hmmm... I tend to disagree. I think his insights and perspectives can serve to educate/open the minds of many Armenians who are too caught up in the past to allow themselves to re-create the vibrant prosperous community that we ought to have. We need more Ara's, more discussion, more education, and of course, more action - but I suppose that's just my 'rhetoric'...

I doubt that. I dont want armenia to become a puppet state for USA or Israel.

And if I may ask what is exacly wrong with us? No one is perfect in this world of course , but I really would like to hear your perspective what do you really ment by being wrong? And why would you consider your way of seenig is the right way? not hers?

I read some of his posts everynow and then, but I dont think this will continue because he seems to be saying the same thing over and over again, only using different words....

And he is no genius for seeing our shortcommings, he may be a genius if he comes up with practical solutions to our problems, but all he does is criticise.

The same critisism over and over , reading his articals it must be a miracle that we Armenians had survived bieng as bad as he and Hagarag thinks we are .

There must be something good in us .

I like the word "seems" here. Seems like Ara's endless repetitions haven't found their way to your brain yet...

Accel, please reread Ara's posts.

I dont like your tone. When someone has nothing to say but wish to be heard they repeat themselves. In the case of Ara, the words may be different, but the underlying message is the same.

He may raise worthwile points on occasions, but his writing is boring and monotonous. I read the first paragraph and close the window....

And if I want to listen to an 'armchair philosopher', I'll go visit my uncle, at least he is mildly amusing when he tells me how I should live my life

Absolutely there is so many good in us that many us don't even relize it yet. I wonder why Ara does not see the good in us? Being a way from Armenia should give him more understanding who Armenians really are what they have been through, and feel that close knit toward his nationality. Critisizing like most of us allready said it is not helping armenians, it is not problem solving. I personally also grew up in foreign country but I love my culture and my people. If you take my Armenianism away from me, you might as well close the book on my life. Nothing moves me more than performing to a non-Armenian audience, sharing our unique and rich culture with people, and have them understand why we are so proud of who we are. This is what I try to get across to each and every member to be proud that they belong to a unique culture and a strong people who know how to survive and live again. The words of the famous Armenian-American writer William Saroyan fits here the best; “For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a new Armenia”. God bless those words because that is what we are doing right now - creating an Armenia in the Diaspora.
