den_wolf
Weekends are too short Mmm, I always thought they were too long, which is why I never felt like going to school on Monday. Or maybe it was because I needed a longer break? Hmm. but definitely, I hate longish Christmas vacations (I don't get much, just a week or two, but it's still too long). I don't like long vacation's either but I would appreciate 3 day weekends. Or better yet, 8 day weeks with 3 day weekends - sounds like a good ratio to me. Anonymouse
My impression of the day is very boring. The highlight of my day was shaking my keyboard. Ever turn your keyboard over and shake it around? If you have then you know this, but if you havne't approach with caution. Things will come out of it that will make you shake your head in wonder, fear and possibly disgust. Your keyboard is essentially a well designed trap for all things small and granular. only the small things fit between the keys, but that guarantees that they'll be in there for all eternity. Dust, pencil points, the eyeglass screw I couldn't find, 10 cents in change, and more. They're the geek equivalent of sofa cushions. I even found a bird food in there from when I had a bird. gevo27
you know whats sad, is that i saw him on the news and the reporter asked him to sing a little, the guy said sure.. but the reporter cut him off near the end, and told him it was hidious!,, People are being wayy to mean to this guy, i think he is a lewl; guy... and plus i need to stick out for fellow engineers right?? hehe.. lol... I think networks should pay him compensation for treatinghim like dirt, making money off of his "talent" or lack of.. anywho.. the impressino of today! OVERWHELMED! only 3rd week of schooll and more things to do more reports to write than i can fit in my planner!! howsad but.. i heard this is hardest semester.. i hope they are right
Sip
The sad part about him was that he apparently had NO clue what he was auditioning for and how horribly he sucked. It's his cluelessness that people find charming. If it was courage and determination to succeed, I would find his character interesting but he is just a clueless dumbass. I hope he is much better in civil engineering than in singing that's for sure. Jimmy Fallon did an excellent impression of him on saturday night live last week which was just dead on accurate! THOTH
how low we all have sunk in regards to entertainment....I can't watch more then 2 minutes of any of these type of shows (and most sitcoms are even worse)...I just don't see the entertaiment value at all (at least for me)...but whatever...still i find it a bit sad...at least here in DC we have some arts offered - Kennedy Center, Wolftrap Center forthe Performing Arts, Shakespear Theater, many smaller theater houses and other venues....I find I actully consume more live performance these days vice TV (OK outside of Movies - which I do watch and sports [American Football...Tennis....bicyling - when I can find it...] - even then - not much...and nature programs...and science stuff...)...too busy with kids, hobbies and other activities..and chillin on the net...anyway..TV in general - blech... Anoushik
Completely agree with you, Thoth. The preference of entertainment for the general public is disgustingly low. Just yesterday I was arguing about this with my parents. My parents, especially my mom, believe that the media is to blame for the lack of taste in the entertainment industry, but I strongly believe that at the end of the day it's still the public who controls the substance of entertainment. If enough people watch, the low-life, pathetic, animalistic "entertainment" will continue.

den_wolf
My impression of the day: "Things do get boring after a while." I have to admit that life as a student does get boring after some time. True, I cherish my undergraduate years, because postgraduate school is so much different, but would I go back to those years? No, I don't think I would. Even now that there has been a bit of change, between undergrad and postgrad, I sense a monotone flow in the days. But I do not dislike it, by any means. On the contrary, I am dedicated to it. It is only that it gets boring after a while. I am young, and I want to go and tour the world, visit countries, meet new people, instead of rotting in some room (years from now), given to me because I have "earned" faculty status. Creating opportunities for oneself is hard. And I want to do just that. I feel like I choose the difficult road in everything. And when I realise it before I'm knee-deep into it, I ask myself why I chose that difficult road, when I could just as well have picked the easier one that would've probably gotten me to the same place. And I feel dumb because of it. But once I finish what I'm doing, it gives me a whole lot more satisfaction, knowing that I chose something and stuck with it. But again, repetition gets boring. Maybe people need to choose the easy road sometimes, even if it comes with the stereotypes of cowardice and so on.
