shiner
He became president in 1992 and everybody loved him. Got lucky because of a recession at the time followed by a strong economic cycle for which he took fool credit (granted the economy is cyclycal anyway, one single man can't do much single-handedly about it and if he can it's Alan Greenspan and others, and when an adminisrtation affects the economy it is always over the long, long term). He was the greatest in political history at smiling for the masses all of which he won over. Women were swept away by his charm which to this day is his only real claim to fame. Those were the good old days when our biggest problems were whether he got his d*** s***ed by Monica Lewinsky or what the actual definition of the word "is" is. Now our biggest problems are dealing with a bunch of fanatics who got their hands on some nuclear weapons so our children can live full lives. What a difference a few years make. Above all Slick Willy was AFRAID. Afraid to do anything that would jeopardize his popularity. God forbid should he have implemented any foreign policy because other countries would not have liked that. God forbid should he have put his foot down and taken a stand on anything, as his boyish charm would have dissappeared. He just smiled at the masses. He was the most popular president in U.S. history with African-Americans (which are the segment of the masses the Democratrs need most since they hanen't been able to carry the white vote since 1964). Who cares? How did that keep N. Korea under control? How does that actually help us? These are the same people that adore Jesse Jackson. Some hard-core Slick Willy supporters still don't realize that the world in 2003 is more dangerous than ever. It is definitely more dangerous than during the Cold War, because back then both Americans and Russians (while Communists) were extremely cautios and rational about weapons of mass destruction. You were not worried that some nut is going to take over Russia overnight and order a suicide raid. These fools still live in their utopian imaginations where "while Saddam is a terrible dictator who hates the U.S. he would not do anything against us", and "it is not our business to get involved in what N.Korea is doing because their nut dictator is very loving", and "Osama and his bunch should be left alone because they are only a small segment of Islam and random acts of violence happen everyday" etc. They blame Bush for taking a strong stand (which I can't even imagine Slick Willy and Gore do). But if he wouldn't and there would be an attack somewhere down the line, those same liberals would blame him for not having done enough. How do you explain that? THOTH
I don't really understand your reason for this post...but whatever... I was never a big Clinton fan - on a personal or political level - and slick Willy is an apt title. He certainly knew had to pander to popular opinion. His (lack of) foriegn policy was a joke...etc etc And I understand his benefiting from an economic upswing not entitrely of his own doing...However, I think that you underestimate his fiscal conservatism and belt tightening that ceretainly had positive impact - unlike Bush/Regean Republicans that talk being fiscally conservative but can't help always record deficit spending and pushing programs (defense/oil etc) and tax cuts to help their supporters. Sad really. Another area where you are wrong is Bin Ladin. Clinton's folks were well aware of his threat and were on the verge of implementing policies to actively pursue this guy & Taliban. These were nixed by Bush adminstration. This is fact. [ February 14, 2003, 09:58 AM: Message edited by: THOTH ]
shiner
I guess my reason for this post was to express how I feel about him and find out other people's opinions on him and this current situation. He is still pretty active in the media to this day by the way, and has been very critical of today's administration. I'm glad you brought up Bin Laden. Supposedly the Saudi's offered Bin Laden to him in the 90's and he rejected the idea. I don't know if this is fact, but it has been treated as such by pretty much everybody. I don't even know if Democrats deny it. Does anybody know anything about that?

Indeed it is,and that is a direct causal effect of greedy war-mongers (like Bush, Sharon, etc.) gaining power.
