wh00t
As Armenians have this soft spot for the Arabs, the same is the relation between Jews and Turks. Sultan Bayazit accepted a large number of Sephard Jews from Portual and Spain who were expelled from those countries. They were in charge of their own communities without much interference from the Turks, but had the same class status as the Christians. Then they became some of the most prominent doctors, lawyers, and businessmen in the Empire alongside the Armenians and Greeks. Thus we have the whole "historical friendship" bit between the two people today. khodja
It is true that some of the leaders of the Young Turks were converted Jews. It is also true that Ataturk was a converted Jew. But it is also true that some prominent Armenians sided with Hitler. The Armenians in the Armenian-populated vilayets did not threat the Jews with any type of respect. Earlier Armenian leaders (e.g. Tigran and the Bagratuni clan) treated the Jews very well, even to the point that some of them intermarried with the Armenians and willingly converted to Loosavorchagan. I would not expect any balanced viewpoint from you Kashishian as you were formed in Arab nations and hold a jaded view of all Jews.

Samjan
Hagarag, Your reply was well-informed and intelligent but why did you have to spoil it in your last sentence by generalising about all Arabs and writing off Khashishian's opinion without a moment's thought? khodja
One of the persons I most admire in the world is an Arab, former Senator George Mitchell of the US State of Maine. Also renowned Associated Press (AP) reporter Helen Thomas. What I disagree with is the total control of Islam over the peoples in the Arab world. khodja
Samjan, Furthermore, I am part-Arab of sorts myself being 1/8 Assori Catholic, also known as Chaldean. What forms each person's thinking is their socialization process, and their life experiences.

They were not typical Rum Miliet.
wh00t
Gamavor, what kind of special status do you mean? I know the Sultan was more than happy to take the Jews, he was reportedly astounded that Spain's brightest and most industrious people would be forcibly thrown out of their nation. But unless I'm mistaken, they were basically treated more or less the same as the lower-classed Christian minority, with the taxes levied upon them and everything... and they were driven out like the others during the war.
