MJ
PRESIDENT WARNS OPPOSITION AGAINST TRANSCENDING THE LIMITS OF LAW YEREVAN, February 22 (Noyan Tapan). President Robert Kocharian hasurged the opposition to act solely within the framework of thelaw and not to disturb public stability. Speaking on Public TV,the president said: "The opposition is much stronger when it actswithin the legal framework." Whenever it goes beyond this boundary,it immediately allows the authorities to do what is incumbent uponthem by enforcing the law and strengthening their positions. In thissense, what the opposition is doing now is wrong also tactically. The president warned that the authorities would vigorously respondto any actions aimed at disrupting public order and fraught withimpediments to the routine work of government bodies. "There is noprodding people to extremities," the president underlined. In anotherdevelopment, the RA Defense Ministry Board issued a statement blamingthe opposition for "violating the internal political balance of thestate" by its actions and calls. The armed forces "stand beside thelegitimate authorities," the authors of the statement emphasized, calling on the opposition to put an end to "the anti-constitutionaland destructive activities." "The armed forces cannot assume a passivestance in the event of possible threats to state order or the securityof state borders," the statement says. P.S. No, it is not a joke.
