melissa15k
Hello, Can someone please remind me of the name of the podium/raised area at the front of Protestant Armenian churches where the pastor stands to speak? In Protestant American churches, most people I think would use the word "pulpit." Is it the same? In Protestant Armenian churches, is the pastor called Der Hayr or no? Thanks for any help,M
Rog
Yes, it is called a "pulpit." No, the pastor is not called a Der Hayr. Pastors in Armenian Protestant Churches are referred to as "Badveli" or Pastor. Sip
No, the pastor is not called a Der Hayr. Pastors in Armenian Protestant Churches are referred to as "Badveli" or Pastor. I am by no means an expert on this but I have never heard "badveli" and have heard "der hayr" countless times. Are you sure on this?
Arpa
I am by no means an expert on this but I have never heard "badveli" and have heard "der hayr" countless times. Are you sure on this?Badveli, Պատուելի, Պատվելի is not a proper noun, it simply means “reverend”, it is an honorific title, addressing the clergy. The Protestant clergy are called hoviv, հովիւ, pastor/shepherd.http://www.biblical-art.com/PQ/plockhorst/plock0005.jpg You may have noticed that of late the Apostolic and or Catholic clergy are addressed as “reverend father/badveli hayr”. The celibate vardapets are addressed as “very reverend” and the qahanas/ reverend father .**As to pulpit the Armenian word is ամպիոն/ampion, բեմ /bema at times also khoran.** See “very reverend” and “reverend” here.http://www.armenianchurch.org/index.jsp?sid=1&id=242&pid=233&lng=en Edited October 31, 2011 by Arpa
