Accelerated
Impressive. What was the inclination of that hill, about 45 degrees?
Sip
Yah, I'd say 45 is my lower guess. Towards the top it gets steeper and some parts look more like 50-55. The good thing was that at the top the ground is much firmer than the bottom. The first half is all loose dirt so it's fun trying to build up enough speed to make it to the top ... but towards the top, the tires didn't have much trouble gripping, but the front of the blazer was jumping left and right since there was very little weight on it, and there are a bunch of small, deep tracks made by the motorcycles. It was am amazing sight how and what these motorcycle guys where doing. There were some guys that were doing wheelies all the way up!!!  Right before we got there, a suzuki samurai broke his front axle going up on that thing. I didn't see it happen but my buddy was there. Also, a few hours later we saw a fire truck and an abulance rushing to that area so something bad must have happened (seeing what they were doing, it was a surprise that more bad things don't happen there). [ January 12, 2003, 10:03 AM: Message edited by: Sip ]

THOTH
Well its finally here - or will be in June/July - and I think I'll be getting one - Subaru WRX STi - American version will have 2.4L engine - 300Hp/300lbft torque - AWD - driver controlled limited slip differential - all kinds of goodies! BTW Accelerated - 2.5L engine - etc - first offered in US model. This puppy is even more advanced/better performing then Jap model (or anywhere else) - incl AWD. And it will beat the crap out of the Mits! http://impreza.subaru.com/microsites/impre...s/news_main.jsp [ January 28, 2003, 10:32 AM: Message edited by: THOTH ]
Accelerated
WHOA! there were rumours that the US (and the rest of the world) market was going to get a 2.5L turbo engine, but not untill the next model. This machine looks like a beast, people who put a deposit for the EVO must be kicking themselves.......LOL It doesnt produce much more power than the 2L (about 15kW more), but seems to have loads more torque 300lbft = 400Nm(?) compared to 300Nm quote:And it will beat the crap out of the Mits!Yes, it probably will kill anything else in the real world from point A to B, anything up to Porcshe 911 Turbo, which in its turn costs like 5 Stis, and is basically classified a supercar.  btw. Mazda has announced the allready well advanced development of the next RX-7, with a larger (than RX-8) rotary engine, but not turbocharged, possibly three rotors. This and the GT-R will be the only cars that will compete with the Sti for price/performace, but they will be more expensive.
Accelerated
I just double checked the performance figures for the current Sti, and torque is almost 350Nm, and the standard WRX is 300Nm. btw. THOTH, have you got any planned modifications? May I suggest a new exhaust system because nothing sounds better than the freed up Subaru boxer warble. And maybe a blow-off valve for an ensemble  And is there info on the price, I didnt find anything at that site....
THOTH
Yes - exhaust mods make some sense - but doubt the wife will go for it - you see i am convincing her that this is a cute small car that she would also like to drive - LOL! I've heard $30K for the US STi - but I woldn't be surprised if it is up to $32K (smart move clearly trumping the EVO...) I am ready to plop down my deposit & get on the list regardless - I see this as my (our!) next car and I can't wait! Still, she wants to look at pics and test drive a normal WRX. I've had a hard time convincing her that no we can't check one out now and no we can't wait until they come out or we won't get one. This car is going to be mega hot. If we don't end up with one I'm going to be crying every time I see (I mean I pass! ...nothing will change there...LOL) one going down the road... THOTH
Wow Mosjan! - is the Mustang yours? Awesome! (Wheels aren't stock however - though look very sharp). I'll have to post pics of my 64 1/2 drop top sometime. Its totally unrestored....but you certainly wouldn't know it by looking at it. I've had quite a few non-believers - ad I'm talking serious Mustang enthusiasts - they just don't believe that an old unrestored Stang could look so good. Runs great too - only 40,000 miles on it! When I got it in 1984 it had about 30,000. Have you seen pics of the proto 2005? Awesome - very retro - and they are talking a 400hp engine (probably for the Cobra)...my next car, after...perhaps...I want! LOL
Accelerated
THOTH, LMAO man, you got a serious problem on your hands . I can allready see the questions being asked: Wife: Whats that big hole in the bonnet for?THOTH: Oh...erm....erm....its the latest trend in air-conditioning, providing fresh air going straight to the cabin Wife: Why is there a big piece of metal on the boot?THOTH: ..erm....thats for like, maybe if we wanna turn the car into a wagon, the conversion is much easier etc...LOL btw. I can just see you entering the car dealer yard and driving out in a standard Impreza wagon instead, gonna be pretty difficult to justify the price hike for the Sti  And if you do get it, do get a turbo timer, and I hope your not gettin other colour than WRC Blue (white is also acceptable though), otherwise I might have to come over, nick the car and dump it in a ditch....
THOTH
Accel - yeah - but its not quite that bad. I've been talking up this car for a while now - but the wife was most interested in the Wagon (me too actually). I don't need all the boy racer stuff - but I don't mind it per se - but would rrather be a bit more subtle/unobtrusive...so it goes. At worst we will end up withthe standard WRX in wagon form...but considering how awesome the STi is - if we go this way - I will be crying the blues for a long time to come... Not sure about Turbo timer & what not. i imagine I will be very content to drive it stock...at least for a few weeks....they want you to keep the revs & speed down the first few though don't they? Oh, and yeah again - blue..I like (but she already has nixed the idea of gold wheels...LOL - though she likes the blue...) [ January 29, 2003, 08:43 PM: Message edited by: THOTH ]

Have you considered maybe gettin the Subaru Liberty (Legacy in US i think) B4. The Sti version is also on the way, twin-turbo, very subtle, only the smallest rear wing and plenty of space for the kids. quote:Not sure about Turbo timer & what not. i imagine I will be very content to drive it stock Sounds like your not familiar with the function of a turbo timer. Basically when you turn the engine off, the timer keeps the engine runnin for set period of time, allowing the turbo to cool slowly. It has nothing to do with performance, but greatly prolongs the life of a turbo, and personally if I were in the market for a 2nd hand turbo vehicle, a turbo timer is a good sign that the car has been responsibly cared for.... I do know of the need to run the engine a bit to cool the Turbo - particualrly after hard driving (I used to een do this with my supercharger in my MR2). Liberty/legacy - definatly not my stlye! LOL. I like small nimble cars. And I already have my (disguised) fuddy duddy mobile - Mazda Millenia S (with a Supercharger and very nice multi-link suspension). Even the wife agrees that she wants something different. (I think she has pretty much - though not fully - accepted the fact that this (Sti) IS THE CAR! Azat
Do you two know show drives Subarus? Do you know who Subaru markets their cars to? Here is a hint for you. A common name for the Subaru is "Lesbauru". Search google and you will find lots of info about their market. Or here are couple of links for you http://www.warroom.com/gaysubaru.htm http://www.adage.com/news.cms?newsId=30653 And if you want to be the Ultimate Gay in San Diego you have to have a WRX - http://www.sdbuzz.com/sports/auto/auto03.html
