Yervant1
Rebels tried to intrude Armenian districts of Aleppo: Several Armenians woundedhttp://armenpress.am/static/news/b/2013/04/713580.jpg16:38, 2 April, 2013 YEREVAN, APRIL 2, ARMENRPESS. Clashes between the governmental forces and armed rebels flared up in Aleppo during the recent days. The Press Secretary of the Armenian National Prelacy of Aleppo Jirair Reisian stated this in a conversation with "Armenpress". In addition he stressed that the clashes mainly take place in Sheikh Makhsood district, which is very close to the Armenian regions. The district is mostly populated with the Kurds, along with a small number of Armenians. The local Armenians moved to other regions for the security reasons. The Aleppo-Armenian emergency unit tries to take care of them as much as possible.Among other things Reisian noted that the rebels tried to intrude the Armenian districts and a number of bombs exploded in the Armenian districts. Several Armenians were wounded in the explosions. Fortunately, their injuries are not serious. There is a danger that the Armenian districts may become arena for clashes. The Press Secretary of the Armenian National Prelacy of Aleppo Jirair Reisian also stated that the city has been deprived of electricity for 4-5 days.In accordance with the UN data clashes lasting for already two years in Syria caused death of over 70 thousand people, including more than five dozens Armenians. Arpa
This is eerie.I am intimately familiar with the one time Armenian Enclave Sheikh Maksood. I was not actually born there but I lived my first 2 decades there. At one time the enclave was exclusively Armenian, heavily Evangelikcal and Catholic , there is a reason for that**. Of course there were Apostolics as well and a few other native Christians. During the repatriation era of 1945-46 many offered their houses for sale and the buyers were a majority of Kurds. Subsequent to that, once again the Armenians moved out to downtown Aleppo where there were infrastructures and other facilities, at which time the demography, once again shifted heavily to non-Armenian non-Christian population. Surveying the present maps of Aleppo I get the impression that the suburb has grown tremendously towards the north. Sheikh Maksood is at the northwest of Nor Giugh and Suleimanieh, directly west of Bostan P*sh*, across the River, another Armenian enclave which has also been in the news lately. It is at this side of the slope of a hill, while the other side looked at the cemeteries, mostly Armenian of all denominations as well as some non-Armenian Christians.*** Speaking of cemeteries, the Monday after Easter was/is known as Mereleots/ Memorial day when the entire Armenian (and other Christian) community would visit the graves of their dearly departed. The day would be a virtual festival when the leading highway would be wall to wall with people walking as well as some vehicles, vendors of all kinds selling flowers and other trinkets, food and drinks. The atmosphere at the cemeteries would be as festive as well, specially with the clergy soliciting the visitors to pray for a fee. This past Monday April 1 was the traditional day of Merelots, which also coincided with the major onslaught of the so called rebels on Sheikh Maksood For which reason, according to Azdak, understandably the traditional pilgrimage was not held, instead the memorials were held at their respective churches. **The land was secured and assisted by Rev. Aharon Shrajian (Evangelical) and Bishop Ter Boghos Chalikian (Catholic), both Marash born. I have mentioned this before, that our house was less than a 100 meters from the tracks of the Orient Express, a major source of entertainment for us.***Armenians are a bunch of rude idiots, which partially explains the fact that we have such pejorative and insulting (furkish) family names. Even today, after so many years in conversations with former Aleppines I alk about Sheikh Maksood very few will know until I use the pejorative nickname of Khortlakh dagh, for obvious reasons furkish for Skeleton mountain. As children we were teased and bullied for this reason. To the south west of it, beyond the cemeteries there was another Armenian enclave, Davudieh, which once again would recognize unless one calls it by its pejorative name Bolshevik dagh, apparently nicknamed so because the early inhabitants were non-Dashnaks. We have confirmed the news but we do not know the exact number of victims. We do not like sectarianism, and we do not like killing people. History reminds us of the hundreds of thousands of Christians in the Middle East who have been massacred. They were slaughtered like sheep in our own country by the Ottoman Empire at the start of the 20th century. History repeated itself in Iraq and the world still kept silent. Now it is being repeated in Sheikh Maksoud, a town near Aleppo. The perpetrator is the same, the hatred they have is the same, the lust they have is the same but the victim today will not keep silent like a sheep. The victim today will take action and cut off not only the hand but also the head of any perpetrator. Today history will have to change it’s course. Many countries kept silent during 1915 as this same perpetrator massacred 1.5 million Armenians. Today those same countries keep quiet and take no action. They pretend to be freedom callers, they claim to have brotherliness, they claim they are peace loving, forgiving striving and calling to Jihad for the sake of their rights... the right to what? Raping women? Yervant1
INCREASE IN NUMBER OF AZERBAIJANI MILITIAS IN SYRIA IS WORRISOME - ARMENIAN EXPERT April 04, 2013 | 16:10 YEREVAN. - The Azerbaijani society is facing serious problems andexperiencing a deep crisis, Arab Studies specialist Sargis Grigoryansaid during a press conference on Thursday, reflecting on the deathof thirty Azerbaijani militias in Syria. "Primarily the youth of the Azerbaijani society respond to the callsfor an Islamic war at the battlefronts. The death of the thirtyAzerbaijanis also speaks to the fact that the number of Azerbaijanisthat have gotten involved in the Syrian crisis reaches hundreds,"Grigoryan stressed. In his words, unlike the Western countries, which state aboutfighting against the Islamists that return from Syria, the Azerbaijaniauthorities do not stand out with such steps. "I believe this comes to prove that this refers to conductinga designed policy. The Azerbaijani guerrillas acquire know-how, bytaking part in military operations at Islamic fronts, [and] uponreturning to the homeland, their know-how could be used in otherdirections," the Arab Studies specialist noted, and added that theAzerbaijanis are fighting wars also in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq,Mali, and in several other countries. Sargis Grigoryan expressed a conviction that all this is worrisomebecause Azerbaijan is Armenia's neighbor. Johannes
Information Minister...Terrorist Groups became the US Arm in Region Apr 22, 2013 MOSCOW, (SANA)-Minister of Information Omran al-Zoubi said the armed terrorist groups became "an arm" for the US in the military and political field, adding "The US has attempted to overthrow Syria through the Iraqi or the Lebanese gate, or through direct tools like Israel. "The US successive administrations recognize that Syria is not a playground for their policies," the Minister said during a meeting with leadership and activities of the Syrian-Russian Friendship Association in Moscow on Monday. He added that the Arab League decision regarding Syria contradicts its convention, affirming that any decision at the UN will not be legal, even if Syria's membership at the international Organization will be suspended, they will not be able to abolish the recognition of it. "The real partner to Syria in all developments will be Russia, this opinion is not mine.. it is the opinion of the Syrian people and leadership," the Minister said. Al-Zoubi added that the goal of conflict in the world has never changed.. all historic events stress that there is a conflict among the interests of superpowers, but besides this conflict there is another between good and bad. For his part, the Syrian Ambassador in Moscow Riad Haddad talked about the political and diplomatic war against Syria and about Qatar's destructive role aiming at killing the Syrian citizens. He said that they gave Syria seat at the Arab League to the so-called opposition and they want to repeat this at the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, then at the UN. Alexander Dzasokhov, Chairman of the Syrian-Russian Friendship Association said that Russia, as people and leadership, has a unified stance to support Syria in its struggle against this global war. At a lecture delivered in the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Minister al-Zoubi pointed out to the strong relations between Syria and Russia throughout history. "Syria is a secular state which has been always a target for extremism and extremists.. Syria is facing Arab and western mass media which do not know what is really going on the Syrian land," The Minister said. He added that Syria is paying the price of that secularism, coexistence and religious diversity where it gathers 18 languages including the Aramaic language of the Christ. "Syria has documents revealing that US officers are training, photographing and giving aids to the mercenaries who belong to the culture of al-Qaeda of Jabhat al-Nusra, Liwa al-Tawhid and many others," the Minister went on saying. He added "we are confident that the crisis in Syria will come to an end due to the awareness of the Syrian people and through the help of the Russian people and leadership led by President Vladimir Putin. In a televised interview with ITAR TASS, the Minister affirmed that the Syrian government was the first who called for the political internal dialogue since May, 2011, this political dialogue has to be among the Syrians and there no relation to al-Qaeda or Jabhat al-Nusra. He affirmed that the political program presented by President Bashar al-Assad on January 6th, 2013 is a comprehensive political, social and economic program, saying "this program is not a mere political vision, but there is a timetable for implementing it… the US, Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia hinder and obstruct any dialogue or carrying out this program." On the possibility of sending petroleum from regions in northern Syria to the EU countries, al-Zoubi said "there are main countries in the EU like France and Britain which are involved in the events in Syria..Their intelligence work in Syria and the neighboring regions.. They are involved in shedding the Syrian blood since the outbreak of events, so the EU decision is not surprising.
Johannes
LONDON, (SANA)- The EU Counter Terrorism Coordinator Gilles de Kerchove revealed that hundreds of Europeans are fighting with the armed terrorist groups in Syria. De Kerchove told the British BBC network that hundreds of Europeans have gone to Syria and that some could join radical groups. "Not all of them are radical when they leave. But most likely many of them will be radicalised there, will be trained," the EU's anti-terror chief said. He noted that the UK, Ireland, France, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands and other EU nations have significant numbers involved in the fighting, according to the BBC. "As we've seen from previous situations this might create a serious threat when they get back," he added. The BBC said intelligence agencies across Europe have stepped up investigations in response to the growing number of European fighters in Syria, pointing out that the Netherlands raised the terror threat level from "limited" to "substantial" last month, partly over concerns about radicalised citizens returning. It added that European intelligence agencies are concerned some could return home to launch terrorist attacks. One Belgian family says their son has joined rebels fighting Bashar al-Assad's regime. The British network indicated that the UK has increased efforts to track how fighters are recruited and funded, and that some politicians in Belgium have called for pre-emptive action to stop young Belgian Muslims from travelling.
