wh00t
This is question is especially for Barskahays, is this true? I thought nowadays Armenians in Iran were basically accepted and allowed to run their own business. This was published recently in an Scottish newspaper about an Armenian couple from Iran who are awaiting an asylum acceptance/rejection. "Armenians are treated like animals in Iran. We are expected to convert to Islam. "We can't go to university or get a proper job. We are considered so unclean that even when we go in to a shop we must declare to the shopkeeper that we are Armenians." Sip
Seems like a natural thing to say if you want to get asylum, doesn't it? We've been outa there since 1989 but even during the early times after the revolution, it didn't get that bad. There were problems at times but not as bad as they seem to make it sound. Harut
the same thing goes on here in US. THOUSANDS of Armenians from ROA get here and ask for "qaghaqakan apastaran", claiming that they will be killed (or something similar) if they go back beacause of their polotical ideas. but, the number of political parties in ROA says something else. wh00t
It's kind of like the movie JOURNEY OF HOPE, where the smuggler tells the Turkish illegal immigrants: "If you get caught, just scream over and over, 'Political asylum!' 'Political asylum!'"`
srbuh
I don't think the things are this bad and people would be killed only for political ideas in Armenia. It is not so easy to be here. Those who leave Armenia just need some serious objection, in order not to be deported owing to humanity speculations. We are considered so unclean that even when we go in to a shop we must declare to the shopkeeper that we are Armenians."It is obviously all lies. I mentioned in another post a long time ago about a staff member of an Armenian community organisation in London (which provides advice for immigrants) who told me she had to quit her job because she was becoming ashamed of her Armenian identity after having to listen to and record hundreds of these fake stories from bogus Armenian asylum seekers. Ironically, there is no need to fake any story, since almost nobody in Britain is EVER deported! As for Scotland, since London and SE England is now literally crammed full of asylum seekers, the British govenment is paying the Labour run Scottish local authorities to provide accomodation for them. Many hundreds of millions of pounds is becomming available and the local politicians and those that make their living from the immigration industry are licking their lips in the anticipation of spending it. Anyone who objects is branded a "racist". There are also many hundreds of thousands of pounds available to those willing to produce pro-immigration propaganda in the guise of community events or art festivals. I was actually approached by one such person last week to become involved in a so called "arts festival" to be held in Glasgow later this month. I did not return his call. koko
Armenians in Iran might have difficulties because they are christians ( wich is filthy in fundamenal enviroments in Iran) and and has to put up with primitive rules of islam in Iran. My mother wich moved from Iran before the islamic revolution told me :Religious muslims had a special tradition, a day, where they would march on streets and torture themselves with some kind of whip and screaming out load! They deliberatley marshed trough armenian neighbourhoods in Isfahan, in New Djulfa. These were of course very religious people and most iranian people are not very fanatic. A very funny story my mother told me was when she was still in school when she and some other girl visited an iranian school. There was a girl there, very religous, in chador who refused to go near them(armenian girls), she was afraid to touch them(christians were filthy pigs) she might the worms. So my mums friend suddenly went to her, grabbed her and gave her a big kiss!My mum told me the girl was so overwhelmed that she fainted on the spot! The principle and teatchers all started laughing. koko
Armenians in large numbers from former Sovjet Armenia are seeking asylum abroad. They tell the most astonishing stories like they will get killed and the maffia is after them, no food, no water, it's hell in Armenia. Then they try to commit suicide in most of the cases, just to get into full action so that politicans will believe them!U feel sorry for them when at the same time u want to tell them to p*ss off! sen_Vahan
One Iranian girl from U of M Ann Arbor told me something about Armenians in Iran when she got to know that I am from Armenia. "Oh, wow, you are from Armenia? There is a lot of Armenians in Iran. There are those presenting the interests of the community in Iran, different newspapers in Armenian language..." Moreover, there is no discrimination against them as Christians. Vahan
Arine
My dad's boss is a Persian and he always tells my dad how repectable and hard working people ARmenians are in Iran. He said that his father's factroies stayed in business because of the Armenian engeneers. My dad gets alot of compliments for being ARmenian. There were many times that I heard American men telling me that when they were young they were in love with ARmenian girls from their high schools and that they were very beautiful and smart. The last guy that i met told me the same but he thought that ARmenians are Middle Eastern people and that we speak ARabic. Where I live there are a lot of Persians and some Arabs so in my college many of Persian and Arab guys always come up and start talking to me, after they find out that I'm Armenian they are like "oh really? wow" , but then they start wanting to date me, i don't know why. I can't even count how many times the same thing happenes. Everytime someone finds out my last name, they always know that I'm ARmenian "which is great cuase then they say stuff like "I didn't know that Armenian girls are so beautiful"I hate it when people come up to me and say stuff like "Didn't the Turks kill you"? or "You don't get along with each other right?" I noticed that most of the time people know about the Genocide, well at least they know that Turks killed Armenians.

Kazza
quote:Originally posted by Arine: It's nice that others see the good side of the ARmenians, not that we have any bad sides. That is good. I find that a releif and a refreshing change. But it's right to a point what Accelerted and you are saying. You have got to be careful. These people might be giving compliemts SUPERFICIALLY on the SURFACE, while they could be after something, or the compliments may be positive but still based on (postitive) stereotypes, and say bad things (negative) stereotypes about us when they are in their own homes or communitites behind our backs. Or they may not, you don't know. For example, it someone says "Armenian girls are beautiful" you your face, what would stop tham for going back to their friends and saying, "Yeah, those armenian foreign birds are gorgeous, but only for a shag" or "Those armenian girs are beautiful but their culture and ways are blah blah blah" (Trust me I heard it ALL before. My point is somepeople can appear to be well meaning when undernearth in fact they could be patronising, or they might prove themselves to be true and honest. The best thing is to take the compliment for what it is, a simple "thank you" and smile will suffice (Like you should expect any less!) amd don't read all that too much into it! Arine
I live in a place that's 99.9% American (white), so when american men say stuff like "I didnt' think that Armenian women were so beautiful " or some men telling me about theri girlfriends in high school who were beautiful, i do feel good that they think that ARmenian girls are beautiful. When I was about 17 years old a 40 year old would always come to my workplace and asked me out (he had a 7 year old) and he always told me that he wants an ARmenian girlfriend. The guy was Iraqi. he even told me that i looks like some actress, i think he said Uma Truman, but i don't look anything like her. It's nice that others see the good side of the ARmenians, not that we have any bad sides.
