Armenian "ethnic" surnames

How many Armenian surnames can you think of that refer to a specific ethnic group? Does this mean that Armenians with such surnames originally had an ancestor belonging to one of these ethnic groups? Here's what I've come up with so far:

Arabian (Arab)

Arnavoudian (Albanian)

Berberian (Berber)

Boulgarian (Bulgarian)

Cherkezian (Circassian)

Gourjian/Vratsian (Georgian)

Hounanian/Younanian (Greek)

Inglizian (English)

Kurdian/Kurdoglian (Kurdish)

Majarian (Hungarian)

Tatarian (Tatar)

Thanks Armenak, veri nice topic.

Berberian is from barber, Younanian-Hunanian is from Old Testament Յունան-Յովնան, but not Յունաստան-Ionia: Let me add others I heard.

Bosnoyan (if it is from Bosnian)

Lazian

Ajamian, Ajemian

Frangian, Frankian

Hindoyan

Habeshian (from Habeshistan-Abyssina-Ethiopia)

Those surnames are because of diasporan situation of Armenians.

Where is he from?

He is from Portugal.

Who is he?

He is the son of who was from Portugal, Portugalian.

And what about Sakayan? Has any body explanations about the origin of this surname? Is it from the ancient people named scythes սկիւթացիք or saks սակեր as in Sakastan-Sajestan?

Berberian

Barber of Seville-Figaro

And, this Vardan Mamikon-chinq :P :) :D

Not to forget that "bulgar-ian" is a variation of "bulghur-tsavar" and "majar-ian" is fermented grape juice , a precursor to wine , "MESH".

Btw. The Armenia word for "magyar=hungarian" is մակյար not մաճար.

And as long as we are talking about "ethnic-geographical" names let us begin with "haleptsi-ian". :P :D :)

Screw the furkiied "haleb-LI-ian" :o

Many have removed that damned "LI" from their surnames, like sassoun-li-an has become sassounian, vanli-ian has become venetsian.... and so on. Then what are those marash-li-ians an aitab-li-ians waiting for? Another kenotsid?

BTW. Figaro means maker, fixer, matchmaker.

What about Halabi?

Yes, dear Armenak, we are keenly aware and not arguing the "I" ending denoting geographical and ethnic origin. It is very common in many languages including but not limited to Arabic and Persian, like IsfahanI, TeheranI, SourI, SyrianI, EmenI etc. We also know about Nagib Halabi and his gaughter Lisa, aka Queen Nour of Jordan. Please read my note again. I am talking about the furkufiying "LI" ending while beside all the others, in Armenian we use "TSI" to denote geographical origin.

From what I've heard, some of those Armenians who lived in Aleppo/Syria before the genocide have this surname (Halabi).
