Mer mechi imastun@ Arpana. But this is one of his least favorite subjects.

How about colorful egs. I know the Armenian eggs used to be colored only dark red color to represent the blood of jesus. But why? How about Rice with raisins.

Easter is always the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox (which is March 20). This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hewbrew people used to identify passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar.

Here's the interesting part.

This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives! And only the most elderly of our population have ever seen it this early (92 years old or above!). And none of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier!

Here's the facts:

1) The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones that were around for that!).

2) The next time it will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now). The last time it was on March 22 was 1818. So, no one alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year!

So enjoy Easter people! :)

But why will the Russians and Greeks celebrate Easter on 27/04/08?

I took this pic yesterday morning, just to compare with the pictures of Takoush :)

Wow Alma jan, so it was snowing in England heh? Well the spring blossoming didn't start there yet.

I see Ed and others spent the easter with the whole family. Well you guys were luckier. My easter was spent not with the whole family. More like bits and pieces and separate. <_< But nevertheless it was a beautiful sunny day.

Once again. I hate to rain on your Easter Parade*

Contrary to conventional wisdom neither Easter or Zatik are Christian traditions. Resurrection and Harutyun are. They come to us from pre-Christians times. According to some "easter" is the time when the sun from the "EAST" turns, when others insist that it was named for the pagan Germanic goddess "OESTRE".

Regardless, all :D the symbols of Easter, such as colored eggs, the bunny and freshley hatched beautiful chicks are all symbols of spring and... FERTILITY.

Use your imagination and see how the egg, the (spring)chicken are the symbols but above all, once again use your imagination to see how rabbits/bunnies multiply, specially during spring. :D :P :)

* For those who may not know the expression of "raining on a parade", it is similar to the Armenian expression of " yepvats apourin pagh jour kharnel/avelatsnel/եփուած ապուրին պաղ ջուր խառնել ".

Is it because they don't abide by that BULLSH*T, OK I said it! That the Resurrection is a Christian Holiday and is not based on that anti-Christ BULLSH*T hrya calendar of Pissover, whatever the H it is?
