Is it about a hospital? Raffi's short story is. Takes place in Iran though, as far as I remember. I remember thinking how I would translate the title in English without losing the word-play. It turned out to be much easier in Dutch: ziekenhuis (lit. house of ill people) vs. slachthuis (lit. slaughterhouse). In German, it would have been Krankenhaus (house of patients) vs. Schlachthaus (slaughterhouse).
Sassun
Nairi, I read it a very long while ago so I might not remember all the details, but as far as I remember, it is not about a hospital. It is about the fire-bombing of Dresden, which Vonnegut himself had witnessed, I think. The slaughterhouse thing comes from the fact that the POW in Dresden survived the firebombing because they were in a slaughterhouse.. RemainFaithful
I adore this word: Ստուգաբանութիւն which is the art of disecting the words. Like: Սեւակ -> Sev is black, ug is eye Like: Շաքարախտ -> shakar is sugar (hmmm, I'm starting to wonder whether sugar and շաքար are related), akhd is disease or similar. RemainFaithful
Sassun, talking about mosquitos, I remember this word: Մժղարգել It's the net that the we use not to allow the mosquitos to reach us.
