Casio Digital Cameras.

Recommended Posts

I have been researching and researching for a couple of weeks now. I want to buy an Exilim series camera for my friend's birthday. For the life of me I can't narrow it down to one model, here are my choices:

Casio Exilim EX-Z75

Casio Exilim EX-Z1050

Casio Exilim EX-Z700

Casio Exilim EX-S770

Casio Exilim EX-Z1050<--- I know this one is 10 mp, but the price is almost the same as others.

Any of you own one of them or have any idea which one to go with?

Thanks,

Emil

Emil .. I've seen the pictures they produce and I must say I've not been too impressed (as of maybe 2-3 years ago). Casio makes GREAT electronics don't get me wrong ... but when it comes to optics and cameras, they leave a lot to be desired. Those ex series sure are sexy but there are much better cameras out there.

I personally swear by Canon ... you just can't go wrong with a Canon of any kind ... more specifically, the elph series are just da bomb. Now pretty much everyone I know has one. My brother actually just bought one very recently for his upcoming trip to Armenia :)

I have to disagree with you Sip here, the Casio Exilim EX series are excellent camera in their category, very compact. They are not my style of camera, for that price I'd prefer not as much compact. But for those who like very compact cameras they are exceptional, they even charge I think without having to pull the battery out. For lens quality I agree with you Canon should be the way to go, or Nikon and Olympus to. Fuji FinePix series for quality is a must see also, they are huge compared to others, but they offer 10X optical zoom, a SuperCCD, and they're quoted ISO1600 and some even ISO3200, for the price, they are in their own category. Pentax should not be dismissed, their lens quality is excellent, but unfortunitly on the mechanical side I have had bad luck.

I also have a canon camera but from the powershot series! they have better functions than the ixus series but they have a bigger size!

Yuk powershot, if you can't take RAW, like mine, the colors seem artificial, as if they are way to much processed, many like this color look, and consider it taking excellent colorful pictures, I think they're much to colored and ahanced.

If you are talking about the EX-Z750, it's about the same thickness (a bit thicker) than the canon on that website. The S500 on the other hand is just plain sexy. There is no doubt it is a VERY cool camera.

I still stick to my canons :) But then again, I doubt too many people care about the quality of the pictures and the advanced camera features as much as I do (short of the pros and those that go with serious SLR type cameras).

I've played with my cousin's cam quite a bit .. not sure of the exact model number but it's one of the really thin casios (Z3 perhaps?). It's a great camera and you won't be disappointed. It's just the canons I've had consistently shoot much better pictures in low light conditions (like at a party for example) than the casios I've played with.

Sip, if you want the best camera's under low light short of being a SLR, check the Fuji FinePix, their SuperCCD are the best you can get in the price range, sorry to say, but for their price they offer the best low light solution, plus they have 10X zoom optics, Canon being behind. This camera is the best one can get for the price(about 400$). ISO3200, SuperCCD, optical zoom 10.7 X...

Cool .. I'll try to check them out. By the way, I tend to never use optical zoom ... most pictures I take are for viewing on a PC so even at 0 zoom I tend to have good enough resolution of pretty much anything I am taking a picture of.

Emil, Just a week ago I got a camera canon IXUS 75 Its a really good one. It costs £250 around $470 maybe its a really good camera 7.1 mega pixel which is rather good for a non professional user. Its not thin but it’s a really good camera, its very compact too.

She wanted a thin camera, so your suggestion wouldn't work.

I bought the Sony DSC-W90 today from Costco. Seems like a cool camera, and it's nice and thin. ;)

Good to know you found something suitable Lol

Once again your advice has helped me out a lot. Thank you Sip! :) I knew I could refer to HF to find the answers I was looking for. :)

Glad to hear it ... if you are going with one of the smaller pocket sized canons, definitely try to get one with image stabilization (IS). The difference in casual images is just amazing. Finally I have a camera I can give to random people and they don't screw up the pictures (most of the time).
