'We took the news about the death of Andranik Margaryan, chairman of Republican Party and RA Prime Minister with great sorrow. The second RP chairman died untimely. We have had so many debates on the present and future issues to implement and carry them out in our country.' Andranik Margaryan would say, 'The firm ideas of independence are still likely to prove themselves and appear under the RA flag with dignity.' It is already the second day that all the booths and small shops have been closed, and people seem to be whispering to one another. RA Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan has always lived in the address of Sayat Nova 8, Avan Community. Not only booths and shops have adjusted to new order but also the taxi services changed their permanent lots and moved to the common transport parking lot. Strangely enough to see the empty road leading to RA Prime Minister's building. This very narrow street has always been lively and crowded. Today it just leads to the RA Prime Minister's building where his civil requiem will take place at 6:00 p.m. Avan Community residents honor the memory of RA Prime Minister in their own way. They are either silent or try not to leave the houses thus breaking the general order. A special attention is paid to the cleaning of the streets and pavements. He shared his contemplations with journalist of A1+. - How do you see Andranik Margaryan both as a politician and economist? - You know, besides being an Armenian, citizen of Yerevan, he was also the figure to struggle for the RA independence. He had a gift of balancing things in the government. He clearly cognized the issues of our independence and respectively he would come to the conclusion that independence, democracy and marketing were interrelated. -What changes are due to come after his death? - It is difficult to answer as I do not see any Armenian to have done so much for the independence of the country. The civil requiem of the prime minister is still on. The journalist of A1+ informs that not only high-ranking, but also ordinary people have come to honor the premature death of RA Prime Minister. In fact, they were also given the chance to go upstairs and condole with the relatives personally. Robert Kocharyan has just come to say farewell to Andranik Margaryan, and stayed at the apartment for 10 minutes and left together with his bodyguards and RA Regional Minister. Serj Sargsyan stayed with the Margaryans for an hour. All the leaders, ministers, deputies of opposition and acting officialdom have come to honor the Prime Minister. Death reasons Armenian population likes inventing legends round the accident deaths of salient persons. But this isn’t that case as the Prime Minister died of an apparent heart attack. Andranik Margaryan’s civil funeral will take place in his Yerevan apartment, in Sayat Nova 8, on March 27 at 18. The funeral will take place in pantheon after Komitas at 15 o’clock. President Kocharyan signed an order to declare March 28 as day of mourning. The opponents also grieve The oppositionists also had special attitudes towards Andranik Margaryan. Or rather as Stepan Zakaryan, the secretary of PPA administration said yesterday “Nobody hated him in Armenia. Both the authority and opposition forces had good relations with the Prime Minister. This shows his humane qualities”. “National Unity” party leader Artashes Geghamyan said to “Radiolur”: “I can’t remember any case when he took a step not proper for the Armenian. Margaryan’s one of the most important characters was that he wasn’t changed as a person. In Aram Sargsyan’s words “unfortunately there are few politicians in the authority pyramid who have positive energy, certain humane qualities, tolerance and Andranik Margaryan was the first in that list”. OSCE acting chairman, FM of Spain Miguel Anchel Moratinos hoped that the Prime Minister’s accident death wouldn’t exert influence on the political situation in Armenia before the upcoming parliamentary elections. What will happen in the RPA? NA chairman, RPA deputy leader Tigran Torosyan told the journalists that the party would try to be strong and finish what they have decided together. It was announced yesterday that RPA council leader Serge Sargsyan would undertake the RPA leader’s obligations. RPA faction leader Galust Sahakyan said in the RPA office yesterday that Serge Sargsyan’s political activities showed that he was “decisive and is able to give lessons for wisdom”. He also announced that the party would continue the pre-electoral campaign at the same pace. The RPA new leader will be elected in the forthcoming session, which will be held after launching the campaign. What will happen in the government? RA President Robert Kocharyan met with the representatives of RPA, ARF, ULP factions and “People’s deputy”, “Businessman” groups. According to the 55th article of the Constitution the government resigns in case of the prime minister’s free position. Then the president must appoint a new prime minister within 10 days after the resignation of the government. Then a new government must be established 20 days after appointment of a new prime minister. The new government must be established till April 26. The special sitting of the government was held yesterday, which led Robert Kocharyan. “Andranik Margaryan left us in very responsible moment, and we, as the authority, must give right solutions to get out of the current situation”, - Mr. Robert Kocharyan told the members of the government. He adopted the RA government’s resignation and ordered the members of resigned government to continue their work till the establishment of the new government. Who will be the likely successor to Margaryan? The sudden death of Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan has led to widespread rumors regarding his possible successor. One of them is Hovik Abrahamyan who as a rule performed prime-ministerial duties when Prime Minister Margaryan was absent in the past seven years. Security forces had trouble controlling a crowd that filled the courtyard outside Markarian’s second-floor apartment in the city’s northern Avan district. His body lay in state there in a private ceremony which was supposed to be attended by his relatives, friends and colleagues. The incessant stream of people turned it into a public event, even though not everyone was able to enter the apartment and offer their condolences to the family of the deceased. Many silently stood in the courtyard for several hours. Among the visitors were Defense Minister Serzh Sarkisian, other senior government officials and senior members of Markarian’s Republican Party, and the leaders of virtually all other major Armenian parties, including those opposed to the government. President Robert Kocharian was expected to visit Markarian’s home later in the day. Ordinary people will be able to bid farewell to the Armenia premier, who died of heart failure at the age of 55 on Sunday, in larger numbers on Wednesday when his body will be taken to Yerevan’s Opera House before being buried in the national Pantheon. Kocharian has declared Wednesday a day of national mourning. Meanwhile, messages of sympathy continued to pour in from foreign leaders, including Pope Benedict XVI and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. Appointed to the third-highest post in the country by President Robert Kocharyan, in 2000, Margaryan held the PM position longer than any of his predecessors. Since his death the prime minister – who was largely viewed as irrelevant and even dim-witted by the public he ruled – has been regaled by leaders with whom he was most acquainted, as a patriot who held the Government together through skilled diplomacy and a talent for level-headed compromise among factions. President Robert Kocharyan remembered his appointee as “modest, tolerant and decent” whose seven years of service “have been the best years of our state”. The president and First Lady Bella Kocharyan arrived at the hall around 2 p.m., where they were joined by Minister of Defense Serzh Sargsyan and Speaker of the Parliament Tigran Torosyan. Armenia’s supreme spiritual leader, Catholicos Garegin II, said Margaryan “left us and future generations the vivid example of love for his motherland, love for his nation”. Hovannisian, whose party has often crossed swords with Margaryan’s government, called the prime minister a “deserving son of the Armenian people”. Whatever the cause, the politician’s death resulted in overnight changes for the fragile Armenian democracy and a host of other issues including the European Community’s quest for energy security in the Caucasus region and enforcement of international sanctions aimed at Iran. With Presidential elections approaching, Margaryan was increasingly seen as a viable alternative to the powerful Defense Minister Serge Sarkisyan, an ally of current President Robert Kocharyan, who is moving toward the completion of his term of office. Both men come from Nagorny Karabakh, an enclave inside the territory of neighboring Azerbaijan. Armenia’s armed seizure of this area in the 1990’s remains a volatile point of contention with Azerbaijan, a flash point in the Caucasus that continues to destabilize the region and slow down cooperation in economic development. Prime Minister Margaryan assumed office in 2000, following the murder of his predecessor. He had lately leaned toward addressing the consequences of Karabakh’s occupation to the Armenian economy. This conflict prevents Armenia, among other things, from enjoying normal relations with powerful neighbors such as Turkey and of course Azerbaijan, specifically precluding the option of Armenia’s serving as a transit country for Caspian oil and gas. Margaryan’s position conformed with the EU’s wishes to resolve the conflict and ensure a higher degree of energy security in the area, a stance strongly opposed by Armenia’s President and Defense Minister, both of whom had been guerilla fighters in Karabakh, steadfastly rejecting any compromise with the Azerbi demands. Margaryan’s position also flew in the face of the current President’s policy of energy cooperation with Iran, which often skirted international sanctions and the EU approach to Iran that Margaryan also supported. Observers report that Magaryan and his family have recently received a spate of threatening phone calls and letters, along with others in his Republican Party of Armenia, demanding his resignation as President and head of the party. Right! Did Armenians invent the word “conspiracy”? At best the report is incomplete. It fails to cite the CIA, the KGB, KKK, Mossad, Savak, MIT, the Masons , and once again the gamut of the alphabet from Z to A, the Zimbabweian Secret Service and the Arevordis. To remind everyone that "conspiracy" comes from the Latin to mean" to breathe/ to whisper together". Is "mia-sh-shouk/միաշնջանք/ միաշունջ/միաշշուկ/ միաշշանք" be the Armenian word for it?
