alby
It is really upsetting to see that some money hungry companies (Armentel) or inefficient people (Nazaryan) could destroy livelihood of hundreds in a nation that finding a job is such difficult task to begin with. How could they run such monopoly and try to close the other operators? Are they going to give them jobs? It just shows the state the country is in. Express your opinion and digust to support the other operators. armenianow

Thus it is well within their rights to demand the closure of the VOIP providers. There may be an injustice in doing so but it is not Armentel's fault. They are a business and they want to defend their cash flows. If anyone is disgusted, they should direct it to the Armenian government for granting Armentel with such a monopoly. But then be ready to put up with expensive land line connections because the land lines are a natural monopoly. Boghos
Very smart thing: a small landlocked country with a large diaspora and educated population grants monopoly in long distance communications. And we complain about the Turks. alby
Any real effective government would have never granted such monopoly but then we are talking about Armenia.
Nazarian
Among other things (such as a possible bribe), the Kocharian government had to sweeten the deal for OTE for them to acquire a telephone network in disrepair. Plus, Armenia is a risky place to invest money - it is corrupt, the market is small, is in a politically unstable area, is effectively in a state of war and things like that. I always thought that it was stupid to create a monopoly where there was no need for it but as alby said, we are talking about Armenia.
