Just Back From Ny...

Went to the AGBU bookstore and bought a few DVDs: Vodka Lemon, the Stalin documentary that I had on VHS and another on on Armenian history. Bought a few copies of the English translation of Raffi´s Khent as gifts and spent about 45 minutes with the office manager and the person in charge of the Young Professionals, Kim Yacoubian. Quite a pleasure and a nice break from business meetings.

Also went to the Church bookstore on 2nd and 34th and bought a copy of Armenian Identity in a Changing World by Levon Abrahamian, started reading it on the plane, quite interesting analysis of Armenians and neighbouring countries, but not restricted to that.

Boghos jan, you visit New York and you chose to write about the Church bookstore and a movie you can get from Netflix? Why don't you write about your impressions of NYC and its residents? I would love to read an outsider's perspective.

By the way, I was pretty impressed by Vodka Lemon. I mean after that monstrosity "The Journey" (for which I have to thank Azat jan once again), any Armenian movie is a masterpiece. :P Just kidding Azatik, well no...not really kidding...but I'll just end it right here.

Darling, we don´t have Netflix down here, so that´s why. But Vodka Lemon reminds me of contemporary Iranian cinema with all its positive and negative aspects. The photography is very good.

I lived in NY for two years in the mid 90s and travel there very often. So my impression of it is tainted by those. I used to think that NY was a collection of stressed out people mostly just passing by. I still think that is true. The good aspects, well, they are fairly obvious.
