Yervant1
Hallo - My Name IS MOvses - I listen to MOmers Varel em - and i can't be cured Arthur Meschyan is the king of kings, I love his voice, style and music and yet he is not getting his due credit. May be you can't get belly dancing out of his songs or wiggle your but. What do you guys think about Edvin or Edwin Petrosyan, his cd Tariner Heto? He sounds sort of younger Harout P. but may be a bit better?

hayemyes
I agree completely. Barov mnaq well see this shows that we cannot tolerate our favorite singer being put in a "criticized" category, because up till now mosjan kept saying harout is rabiz and everyone went against him and i, but now that he says the same thing except said in a more subtle manner with a bit of extravagance and compliment to that singer, we come to agree... hayemyes
That's irrelevant, the only requirement for pop to be 100% Armenian is for it to be sang by an Armenian in Armenian. It doesn't need to have Armenian elements. Pop is pop everywhere. Even for no pop, I consider Rouben Hakhverdyan an Armenian artist who performs and writes Armenian music. I cannot by any means say the same thing about Tata, Aram or Vle (lol). When I listen to their music I picture some towelhead... well THAT is irrelevant, because with ur description of pop, we can be singing oh mcdonald's had a farm in armenian (like some original guy did on his album recently), sing sayat-nova, or even sing a turkish melody with armenian lyrics by an armenian singer and voila, we have armenian pop music...no thats not right...we have to be able to define our own pop just like turks and arabs have their own definitions of style regarding pop... as for ruben hakhverdian, according to ur definition of arm pop, his music is armenian pop, according to me, his music is armenian poetry attached to a melody which is not, by any means, armenian...the singer is, but still its not armenian pop... I think, everyone SHOULD respect each others opinions. For ex, I like rabiz music, and i am glad i do, and i dont care if u guys think its not a good music. but if u like someone like shushan petrosyan or christine pepelyan, whom i dont listen, i won't say they suck, and if u listen to them then u're a trashy armenian. u know y? cuz i respect everyone opinions, even if i dont like it. if u think that being armenian is on their taste of music, you are definitely WRONG. there are too many people who listen to estrada but are some kind of people who shouldn't be living now. being armenian is not on whether u listen estrada or rabiz. i dunno how u guys are thinking. but you should definitely at least TRY to respect others' opinions. Harut
Why? I and many others don't see the difference. Can you tell the difference between Deathgrind, Blackened Death, Grindcore, Deaththrash and Goregrind genres? The Dixie Chicks, Dwight Yoakam and Johnny Cash are far apart from eachother, yet all three fall under the label of Country Music. come on... are you telling me you can't differenciate kurdish mugham from washed down monotous armeno-russian bit from simple pop from some other weird thing? aghchi mti hord tamar@... mechqit kapem karmir qyamar@, akh qyamar@... is the same as tsaghikner, tsaghikner, tsaghikner berem... sirun jan, qo jampen zugem zardarem... ? Yes, one is nauseating the other is funny and nauseating. Try and figure out the difference between death metal (Cannibal Corpse): Guts and blood, bones are broken As they eat your pancreas Human liver, for their dinner Or maybe soup with eyes Cause of death, still unknown and black metal (Marduk): Sultan Murad of the turks is getting more powerful each day Dracul will not be one of them that for his mercy will pray He must turn his back on his previous allies And conspirate with the turks Beware you all of the evil blood that in Dracul lurks The holy Roman emperor will get angered with this But Dracul must protect himself, it's a right of his So feel the greedy claws of death, you weak men of god Treacherous thoughts was the father of the berserker prince Vlad oh and gore-grind (Macabre) Dr. Holmes he stripped their bones To medical students their skeletons he sold He melted their flesh in acid bath And sold their bones in classified ads I want you to work for me But don't tell anybody Just come to my black hotel And bring me all your money I'll put you in my lime pit Your life I'm going to end it Someone who hates this cannot tell the difference. Eurocentric
Isn't black metal the genre that mostly consists of bands whose members wear Halloween masks or makeup? It's called corpsepaint That's not really a pre-requisite. The wiki article lists the various characteristics.
Zartonk
i recognize his work in upgrading armenian music back then, but nowadays hes more of a show star than a singer True. He now follows a formula that was dated even in the 80's. No one's a legend... An artist should be judged not as an artist of a certain catagory/style/label, but as an artist. period. The ONLY thing that concerns me about rabiz is that it's possibe that we will unconsciously begin to replace our singular musical heritage with it (It can be ANYTHING else: pop, rock, funk, salsa...) That's loss. Otherwise, there are fine examples of self-expression within, as with any other musical style.
