Over the past 6 months or so, it has come to my attention that anyone who speaks about anything, will first be judged by the "days that they have been on earth" than any other factor present before being interpreted. Who is talking? It is the first thing you look at when you see a new thread or post. If you imagine someone else saying the same thing as another, would your reply not be different? Would your mind not come to another conclusion? I'm sure it would.

Then my next question would be to the active members in the forum. Those who coincidentally range between 30-40 years in age. I know that some of you use your age as a 'barrier' to perhaps dismiss or avoid certain discussions and debates as they are related to someone who is younger than you. You may even choose to speak in a condescending manner. This may come because there is a belief you have more wisdom or you have had more experience; well I doubt you have any of those. Age is accompanied with time, and time is the value that gives you the opportunity to experience more in life. It is equally foolish to associate youth with inexperience, arrogance, naivete & immaturity as many have. This is not a classroom and I am not telling anyone what to do; but I would like to address the issue at hand so you may reconsider when you reply to not use age as a reason to have an effect on your response.

Seb who are these people, Titus Maccius Plautus are they the same as Tateos, Mateos and Partheghomeos?:) This Trinummus is it a triple layer Tiramisou?

If you had the age wisdom you would not have written this.

Sebastia:

I understand what you are trying to say and I do sympathize with your emotions; but try not to take it to heart, for I know one thing.

You certainly do have the value and the capacity of wisdom regardless of any age factor. :)

It's not a matter of my emotions at all. It's the attitude that is adopted by the older age group.

I understand Seb jan; but you will find in life that people sometimes would try to undermine you just because you don't agree with them as your ideas and point of views differ. People have done it with me too; they will find any which way to find or even create a means, a way or a source to undermine you. If they could, they will certainly use your young age factor to do so. Btw; you're young, you're immature, you haven't gained any wisdom in life yet, etc. etc. As with me, I have just recently been attacked for the fact that I have mentioned in the past in a conversing and a friendly and/or a jesting manner about my hair or my age, etc. etc. I have also learned the hard way that even by conversing in a kindly and a friendly manner to familiarize myself and befriend, simply to get to know others to connect, they have used it against me when my ideas differed with their ideas.

What can I tell you, it's an unjust and a cruel world sometimes; but we'll get over it. In my case; I have learned to give a deaf ear as I very well know myself and value myself regardless of others' shortcomings and cruelty.

Continue to have confidence in yourself and in your deeds and forget about the ones that deliberately want to undermine you and try but unsuccessfully ridicule you.

I tell you another thing Seb; the world is a circle; for whatever enmity that people will demonstrate it against you, they will be the same and justly rewarded. They will also receive it to whatever nonsense they are giving it to you. So cheer up there's always justice in this world. :)

In general, I agree with what you have said above. That said, an interesting thing about on-line communities and the exchanges that take place within such communities is that they are devoid of the usual factors upon which most judgements are made: age, looks, weight, social status (wealth) etc.

As such, it becomes the content of your posts that form the basis of on-line "person". Any opions that are formed with regards to yourself are a direct result of information/opinions you have offered to the community. Rather than playing the age card, if those around you deem you "young", maybe you should analyse why that is the case, and what you have posted to lead them to arrive at that conclusion. And I'm being earnest, and not condescending - in case that's how your interpreting this post. :)

To be honest Anahid jan you also adopt this attitude I am talking about. You have brought it up many times in discussions and yes you have good intentions, but it should not alter your post.

Even now you are telling me it is a "cruel world" and I should "continue to have confidence in myself" when I stated this is nothing personal. One can come to no other conclusion that this is attempted to patronize. Just a point to ponder ;)

Sorry Sebastia if you think or believe that I have adopted the attitude of having altered my posts in regards to your age factor. Just a point to consider though, I truly don't think or believe I have talked down to you for the mere fact that you are younger; because I honestly believe that you are much wise to your years. If I did mention or implied about your age factor, it is true that I have mentioned it in a good way and intention; because I think highly of you and I believe you know that already. You have much more wisdom than your years and you are quite intelligent. I am quite sincere about this.

When I said about a cruel world, I said it for the one's that don't mean it in a nice way but in a condescending way; either towards you, towards me or someone else too.

Ok come on now ... OF COURSE age is a factor. If I am talking to a 4 year old, or a 10 year old, a 16 year old, a 20 year old, a 30+ year old, and a 60+ year old person, OF COURSE I will take a different tone and phrase my thoughts differently.

You just can't talk to a 4 year old, the same way as you talk to a 16 year old. Also, you can NOT talk to a 50 year old, the same way you talk to an 18 year old. That's just how our civilized social interactions go.

As far as young people being put down only for their age, that is not a good thing as the others have also said. But just because a person is young, and it's the internet, that doesn't mean that person can all of a sudden start talking to the older people like he or she was hanging out in the back alley of a restaurant with the "kutche" (street) buddies.

Also, sSebB, if you want to tell me that as a young person your views about life and matters relating to life are just as valid as someone who has faaaaaaaaaaaar more life experience than you, please, don't bother. I won't believe it. Unless you can tell me that you have seen just as much pain, joy, difficulties, obstacles, having to support and take care of other people (parents, children, relatives, etc), having to watch some very very close and loved ones take their last breath (sometime in severe pain, sometime not so bad), felt the touch of a women/man/(both?) in the most sensual ways, seen old friends drift away and many new ones come and go, met up with old old friends after several decades who have taken very different life paths than you, etc etc etc, then don't expect others to just take your views on life and how things are (even if you think you know it all) to be worth the same as someone that has lived maybe 3 or 4 times longer than you.

Frankly Sip; I also think that you happen to have very legit points. It's true that no matter how much wise or wiser you are than your years; still age and the experiences that comes with it, is to be taken into a great deal of consideration. The mere fact that somewhere in your 40's you simply become even wiser and maturer in life. Ask anyone Seb and they'll tell you about this and the validity of it.

So yes, maturity and more wisdom comes with the facts of life and with experience.

First of all, you don't know what I have gone through & I don't know what you have either; that is reason enough to cancel out how you speak to someone. You may assume you know, but that would be a mistake.

I know you would phrase your thoughts differently to people of different age in real life but that would be only because you have an idea of what they know. Online is a whole different situation you see. It is very possible a 20 year old has experienced all the things you talked about before a 40 year old has. But how would you know that? The answer is, you wouldn't.

So, having said that, age wouldn't be an ideal factor.

Note that I do not support the youth talking to the older people like he or she was hanging out in the back alley of a restaurant with the "kutche" (street) buddies. ;)

I rarely respect age. It is not in any sense an indicator of anything except senescence, wrinkles and white hair. Nor do I want or expect those younger than me to respect me simply because I'm older. It's the stupidest thing ever concocted.

It's all about youth arrogance, I was once myself. I know everything there is to know attitude and I demand respect even if I say childish stuff, like "my sh*t don't smell bad".

You young adults out there, remember that older folks been there and done that, know very well how wrong we were in our thoughts and behaviors at that age. You young adults will never know what I'm talking about until you grow older and experience life. As Arpa would say "you guys don't know where your vor*ks are".

And the older folks are just as arrogant as the ones they accuse.

We paid our dues to earn that right, wait for your turn and be patient. BTW I don't see it as arrogance but life long knowledge even though it is percieved as arrogance by some young adults. :)

Seb, what hath happeneth to to thee?

Hast old age catcheth up with thee?

How come thou hast not quoted from that “authored by God” handbook of sanitation engineering, read “garbology“?

Then, allow me.

Exod.20

[12] Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Unless, of course, you have come to the conclusion that you are older and you know more than “thy father and thy mother”.

Yes, yes, sure. “Thy” anachronistic “father and thy mother” may not have the sophistication of accessing this forum…

They should have had a larger supply of those diapers!!

Upon further googleing, I think this settles it. Respect your elders because God said so. End of story.

Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:32

Also, anytime someone older enters the forum and makes a post, all young people should get up from their seats in respect. :notworthy:

This would give me the impression you think I was promoting no respect to elders?

My advice would be to re-read the thread ;)
