I personally know a friend's sister who was a 7th day adventist who pretty much ran away to the mountains

because her husband was too "wordly".

Religion IS a form of mental illness...

That's the truth.

I don't think I would call it an illness. It's more like a form of mental laziness in some cases. In other cases, it stems from fears, superstitions, or just up-bringing.

A case in point is a circus elephant. When they are very young, they are tied with chains to a pole. They can't break the chain. As they get older, they develop the strength to break the chain but almost never do! They just stand around not even realizing the chain holding them to the pole is more of a product of their brain and up-bringing rather than an actual hinderance from wondering away from the pole.

I don't think so...I'm a lazy non-religious person.

Now I heard it all. Religion and mental illness?

Is that why you are not trying to be one or is it because you are afraid of God?

Which is it?

The simple fact pal is that you don't really have to be afraid when you show belief and love.

But of course we can't tell you that because you won't like to hear it. Well then I'll keep it to myself.

Nevertheless, the fact of the matter is that in religion, when you experience good things, out of your love to Him and your love to mankind you want to share your happiness and you want to see others to benefit that good feeling and happiness too. That's why most of us talk about it in here. Out of wanting to share.

Actually been religious. Didn't work out too well...

I prefer to be a moral non-religious person...

Happiness comes from within...I guess.

Well it depends what religion I suppose, as it varies from religion to religion.

Well I just read your article. It's the same phenomena such was the case when Armenians, Greeks or other Christians were living close to a century ago in the Ottoman Empire, as the Turks did the same things but this time to millions and millions of people. Such was the case of the Armenian Genocide.

How about Christian atrocities against New Worlders?

Catholics killing Protestants?

Hindus massacring Muslims?

Buddhists killing Hindus in Sri Lanka?

Religion is mental illness, much the same as any other form of ideology... political, national, or otherwise.

No difference.

I believe it has been said before; the ones that did killings have done so because they didn't follow their true religion and that God's words didn't transpire to them in its true sense.

Because they did it out of their sellfishness, and they didn't follow what Christianity was all about nor the word of God.

Notice I am only talking about Christianity at this time; because that's the only religion I know.

Voghormats, even though I would be the last person to defend religon in general, there do exist peaceful religions. So I don't think it is fair to pick only violent manifestations of certain religions and use them to push a point against religion in general.

Even though it is true that many killings and attrocities have taken place in the name of religion, one could also probably make a case that many more attrocities have been prevented in the name of religion too.

Neither makes "religion" right, but I don't think either makes religion ok either.
