skhara Posted January 6, 2006 Report Share Posted January 6, 2006 Well he may not be the most upstanding individual, but he is a punk who's been the greatest player to play the game to date. . Seriously though, Pele was a great player on an already excellent team. His skills were that of a striker. Personally, I think he's been way to elevated. The players surrounding and feeding him the ball were themselves big name superstars and he played at a time when the game wasn't as physical and skill players were able to run freely. I don't belive that Pele made anywhere near the kind of difference on his teams that Maradona made on his teams. I can take an example of Napoli who were nowhere before Maradona, won two Serie A titles and a UEFA Cup title with Maradona, toppling Italian and European giants, and then going back to going back and forth between Serie A and Serie B without Maradona. He could play any position on the field and he could do it well. The goal that he scored against England, I haven't seen anything remotely similar done.
