System Of A Down Tops 2005 Kerrang! Awards Nominations

LONDON (Combined Sources)--System Of A Down and Green Day topped the nominations on Wednesday for Britain's biggest heavy metal awards, going head-to-head in five categories. The two bands were nominated for Best Single, Best Video, Best Album, Best Live Band and Best Band on the Planet at the 2005 Kerrang! music magazine awards. Another US group, My Chemical Romance, picked up four nominations. Feeder, Stereophonics, Funeral For A Friend, Placebo and Cradle Of Filth will battle it out for The Best British Band title. The Best British Newcomer award will be chosen from Bullet For My Valentine, Fightstar, Towers Of London, Nine Black Alps and THE GA* GA*S. Last year The Darkness took the Best Album and Best Live Act awards, but they failed to win any nominations this time round. The winners will be announced on August 25. System Of A Down's latest CD "Mezmerize," was released May 17 and debuted in the number one slot on the Billboard/SoundScan charts. "Mezmerize" also experienced worldwide first-week success having soared to the top of album charts in more than a dozen countries--worldwide sales for "Mezmerize" in its first week topped 800,000 copies. "Mezmerize" is the first disc in a two-disc set, with disc two, "Hypnotize," set for a late fall release. "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" was produced by Rick Rubin and System's main songwriter/guitarist Daron Malakian. System Of A Down's newest video, "Question!" premiered on August 5. The video was shot last month in Los Angeles with System bassist Shavo Odadjian and Howard Greenhalgh co-directing. The video was written by and based on a dream that Odadjian had, and is a surreal, high-concept fairytale. Regarding his collaboration with Greenhalgh, Odadjian told MTV.com, "I needed to get someone on my team who knew effects because I'm a rookie. I'm used to being in a band and collaborating. If someone's interesting and has an artistic mind, he could make my idea better."

I have SNL recorded. Good performance. The profanity accident made the big noise tough .

Just saw them last night. They rocked your pants out at DCU center.Anyone was there? That was one of the best music and concert I've ever seen. The energy in the place was incredible.I am glad I did not stand in front otherwise I sure would of lost some teeth or got a bleeding nose from all the "wild dancing"

One of my most fave songs is "war" To hear life is down right insane.

They were some Armenians with Armenian flags :) Anyway check them out now, they are on tour.

They played last night here in Montreal - it seems the rocked the house at the Bell centre. I didn't go, but I have a few friends that went.... they haven't been heard from yet today, so I'm positive it was a good show. Nice to see an Armenian band selling out...

Edit: I meant "selling out", as in sold-out shows... not the other meaning ;)

Too bad you missed it.I intend to see them whenever possible from now on.I truely fell in love with them as pure artists. They have done more and still do more for Armenian cause then anyone else presently.

The music is not an easy one to listen but most great art in any medium is not easily digested either.Vava jan I am not preaching to you since I know you and know your taste,I am just sharing my thoughts. Please everyone go see this band.It may change lot of things in you as well.

Hey guys my name is Hrach, im 17 from L.A. and I just joined Hyeforum because I want to interact with other Armenians around the world. So anyways I saw System live at Long beach on August 4th and may I say that was one of the best concerts ive been too. I was in the mosh pit and I got the crap kicked out of me, but it was worth it. I was standing right infront of Shavo, the bass player, and even though I was covered in sweat and was dead tired I had the best time of my life. I saw soooo many Armenian flags there. lol almost half the people there were armenians, and i saw like 10 Armenian flags. It was awesome they played Armenian songs and the Bass player danced in Armenian. It was a wonderful experience, and even though they pushed me around and I ended up on the opposite side of the crowd at the end of the concert I will never forget it. Oh yeah we did a shoorg-bar (lol) in the mosh pit circle its was really fun.
