I know this is an Armenian forum, but my post is targeted to all love songs no matter what it's origin is.

BAN ALL LOVE SONGS!

First thing I'd do if I were dictator would be to ban all songs relating to love, relationships, and breakups. How much more garbage can these morons who call themselves musicians write about this topic that has been killed for centuries. Get over it, save yourself the 4 lines of music and 30 words childhood grammar. Please do the world a favor, Don't publish this shit. It's not drugs or pornography that is corrupting the youth, it's bad freaking music. *U*K! You can't turn on the f***ing radio without hearing some bi*** or pu**y whine. Love is a great topic, but it isn't for music anymore.

Now lets move to Armenian pop music, wowww this has got to be the most primitive shit I have ever heard, Can it get any less creative and intellectual than this? I'm not talking about dance music and party stuff, I understand the point and target audience, but when these same musicians write their so called "" personal"" pieces, wow just get up and leave. The construction is just terrible, made up of a sentence that repeats twice, the scale is raised and then you get a ridicolous chorus or verse which is repeated twice as well, then.... We move down to the first scale and melody and repeat another sentence twice, later we come back to the chrous again, repeat that line twice and then finish it off.

R&B

R&B aint what it used to be, There is no more of the music that influenced it, no more James Brown, no more Delfonics, etc.

All we have is the same people whining about the same shit over and over.

Rap is just pure nonesense, I'm not even gonna get into it.

Although there is some nice underground hip hop which has intellectual properties and philosophical lines involved. 50 cent is pure garbage. Eminem is getting old, Screw em all.

The only good music left now aside from good worldwide traditional or cultural music is probably...

RADIOHEAD.

you guys should check them out.

I'm mostly dissapointed in Armenian music however. It's just so darn primitive, and we got our youth listening to this nonesense. First thing any child should pick up is the Beatles, with classical music aside.

Lets ban these con artists who call themselves musicians and end the dark ages.

Peace! :msn-cry:

:D ...

All love songs? Surely there must be some classics in there that don't deserve to be banned, um.. like "Unchain My Heart" sung by Ray Charles, and of course "Unforgettable" performed by Nat King Cole (couldn't think of anything else at the moment) :) But I understand your frustration.

I'm not talking about dance music and party stuff, I understand the point and target audience, but when these same musicians write their so called "" personal"" pieces, wow just get up and leave.

I'm gone even before they get to their "personal" pieces :P

And I thought I was the only one to think that there is something seriously wrong with showing great affection to one's own child in a music video made specifically to show of one's motherhood and her kids. It's inexcusable, no matter who the celebrity is. :)

That's how all pop music is, no matter from which country it is.

Peace!  :msn-cry:

Armenian pop music is definitely primitive, though the party music is too in many ways. Why do so many people listen to Arabic and Turkish music? Cause in all honesty it has hints of modern rhythms and they've successfully mixed it into their own culture. You can't compare the heavy full sounding rhythms of Turkish and Arabic music to Tatas mixes. Sure his music is nice, but it is wimpy.

I can't stand when Armenians complain about rabiz music not being Armenian (which I agree with) yet they don't say anything about estrada, the crap Armenian pop music we have to listen to all day and night in Armenia. Since when was that garbage Armenian? It's just pathetic love lyrics put to primitive synthesized arrangements. I thought we were much deeper than this?

First of all let me comment on Radiohead, I know many will get a panic attack when I say this, but Radiohead annoys me. I know I am not a music critic or anyone with a tuned ear for musical composition or the voice, but I can tell when someone whines A LOOOT. They are a bit like Cranberries, too much of that suffering trembling I-gotta gargle-my mouth music. And it also resembles that gay music genre Emo (short for emotional music I think). Perhaps you are right, not many write beautiful love songs today, most of them are just trite and cliched like: "Baby I love you, baby I need you, baby I want you, baby...baby...baby..." Yuck.

I think Jeff Buckley's songs were very romantic and Thom Yorke imitates him unsuccessfully. I agree with Anoushik, there are many timeless classics that can still set the mood.

I think music is like food. There is tons of it to go around to just deliver substance in large quantities, but only select food is truly exquisite for people with real appreciation and acquired taste for true "art." That’s why there is a lot more bad food, just like there is a lot more bad music.

That's true I agree with you for the most part. There is nothing wrong with a love song, as long as it's got some kind of significance to it. Songs by Louis Armstrong are great.

About Radiohead, at first they do come off as a band that whines, but over time you notice the philosophical backbone of their music. Even their love songs carry a different type of energy. Radiohead is even greater when you're under the influence :) although not everyone goes that route. I love how experimental they are, they kind of have a hint of the beatles from that perspective, but there is never going to be another beatles.

Here are some songs I recommend: No surprises, Fake plastic trees, nice dream, karma police, my iron lung, idioteque.

No one can be the first and the original, can they...? :)

This is the problem with the world in general :

People's perspective on music is any background noise that fills up their space and excites their lives a bit, regardless of substance or quality, and it is rarely viewed as art and expression. Music really is treated too lightley by too many. That is why there seems to be only manure lying around in the front row of record stores, because not very many give a damn what is being sung about or weather what their ears are exposed to is even close to being worthy of being considered music. I mean, everybody does music and "loves" it, right? right. But VERY few people actually bother themselves to engage in an act that is listening.

The most important factor, however, is what people are fed by the main streem. When MTV tells you this is cool trend of the hour now , and you are to buy it, that is exactly what public does. The major audience is as vochkhar as it gets. And thats also where you come up with your herecies such as Emo and Crap-hop. Seriousley, how in freakin hell did something like Ashlee Simpson go platnium, and why in the world is something sooo unmusical, self-centered, pointless and materialistic as rap go up next to the U2s and the Floyds in Live8?

While we are on the grand topic of rap, it apperars to me as if any attempt at genuine musical decency within the genre is quickly rejected, mocked DISSmissED as too "ungangsta" an dubbed a sell-out. WTF?

On Armenian music, All I will say is go thank your God we're an aged culture and have a dying few graat enough to be original and cling to our legacy.

Lastley, Gems like Radiohead, Floyd, are the substance man... ;)

And, oh yeah, Eminem's NEVER been good!

I completely agree with you man! :)

To be honest I don't think System of a down is that great either, I like their music when I'm in the mood for something heavy but viewing it from an artistic and philosophical point of view they are not as deep as they seem.

Sure they talk about politics and stuff, but politics really isn't that deep of a subject.

It's not the soviet union where there was an Iron curtain on everything, the poltics thing is old.

I look for original flowing compositions rather than just some chords that act as passages to the next part of the melody. I like to hear a lot of harmony backing up the melody. I don't like being a critic and I know I'm being one right now, but the first thing I do when I hear new music is compare it to the classics, Beatles, Pink Floyd, etc.

I absolutley feel you when you say that the "classics, as far as song structure, lyrical impression and timelessness go are....well, classics!! :)

BUT, System of a Down IS my favorite band...

Let me explain me: first and foremost, it Rocked my realm when I found out about Armenian-Americans making music that wasn't Rabiz, and hearing (as unintentional and subconcious as they may call it)bits of Armenian melodies in their songs.

Their approach to song writing is also special. I can see how at first they might come off as some nu-metal band who tries to sound lyrically like Rage a.T.M.

But if you really go beyond the fact that they are power-chord people, they hav songs about day-to -day life which seeks philosophical answers. It's just that theyre not as minimalist as lets say Floyd or Beatles, but they do make for "thinking rock", it just needs time and stuff. Good modern-prog-metal, I say.

I mean look at the rest of what goes on:Emo :msn-cry: and monotonous heavy metal :sleep1: , and there is little room for creative bands like that.

Also, the band itself means a lot for me: they are migrating (exept Daron) Armenians in a new world, so they like the most of us.

I mean it might just be the Armenian thing,( :) ) but they mean a lot to me and I appreciate them a lot.

Anyway man, great to have a good music fan here. keep Rockin!

Yeah you're right, They have my complete support as well because they made it big coming from a minority background, and they are far more creative than other bands who have a similar style. Although I may not add them to the top of my list but seeing fellow Armenians on shows like saturday night live and stuff makes me proud! :)

Yeah man, nothing like that feeling the world!

By the way, have you checked out the Mars Volta before? They're touring with SOAD this year, and I've heard they're the biggest prog act of todsy. Think you might like them.. ;)

Yeahhh, Mars Volta is awsome. They got some original stuff. That's a pretty good combo for the tour, system and volta. A lot of variation.
