Artaxias
do you mean people who know geography by that? style_images/master/snapback.png European periphery in the East is not clearly defined and never has been. Armenia has always been a part of Europe and Armenians are Europeans. I use Ural and Caspian geographically, Armenia culturally/ethnically. According to your definitions Cyprus is not a European country but Kazakhstan is Edited June 2, 2005 by Artaxias

ED
Geographically Armenia is in Asia and so is Cyprus, but is considered Europeans for cultural and historical reasons. And some of Kazakhstan falls into boundaries of Europe.

Anoushik
Geographically Armenia is in Asia and so is Cyprus, but is considered Europeans for cultural and historical reasons. style_images/master/snapback.png This is the answer I always give to people who ask. In our Webster's New World College Dictionary , Fourth Ed. (1999) the map of Europe sets the boundaries with the Ural Mountains, extends to the South to include Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, but leaves out all of Turkey. For me the surprise wasn't that Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan are in Europe on that map, as some maps include those three countries to be in Europe and some don't, but rather that the entire Turkey is left out of Europe. It is on the next page on the map of Asia. I love that dictionary. It is so thorough. I was again surprised a couple of days ago when I opened to check out Yerevan. I wonder how I could have missed this at first when we got it six years ago. It says: Yerevan - capital of Armenia, at the foot of Mt. Ararat: pop. 1,200,000 When I told my father he thought that this was a mistake that they'd missed (since it's obviously very political) and he predicted that that comment about Ararat would be taken out in the new editions I'd be curious to know if that's correct
Armen
Caucasus is a free, independent and very proud mountainous region that does not belong to any other pathetic regions like Europe or Asia. So there are two Americas, Europe, Afirca, Eurasia, Asia and the Caucasus
