ckBejug
Today's (Wednesday, April 20th) Los Angeles Times has a longish article in the 'California' ( section about the Armenian Genocide. There is a picture on the front page of the California ( section of the people marching (March for Humanity) from Fresno to Sacramento and an article on page B3. The title of the article is: Marchers Remind World of 1915 Armenian Genocide. They refer to it as the Genocide of Armenians by the Ottoman Turks and fortunatley don't use any words like 'alleged' or anything like that. I have provided a link to the article but the link is only temporary as LA times disables links after the day is over, so you guys should go out and buy a copy of the newspaper. Perhaps someone more eloquent than me can write a letter to the LA Times thanking them for this article. See article here, temporary link If you guys know of any more articles out there, please reply to this thread so we can all know about it. Thanks! Vayri7X
Brava to the marchers for getting the words out. For their thoughts , actions and deeds proving to be effective in educating the unaware of our struggle ( among other things). Question: Has this media outlet often referred to our genocide as alleged? From what I am aware of, California media has for the last decade or so printed genocide without the false modifier of " alleged". Yet I do recall them falling into the erroneous trap of the much dreaded " relativism" and so-called "objectivity" by including quotes from Turkish -American committees and orgs inorder to be "fair and balanced" so to speak. <_< A French social scientist (Bourdieu, I think) once stated that purported objectivity usually amounted to little more than upholding the status quo, the orthodoxy, of opinion. Essentially giving consent to the position with the most hegemony. There are typically few cases where one has an actual disinterested or removed view . Now , for the Texas media to follow suit. Hopefully in a fashion dissenting from the current lines of the genocide being 1) alleged or 2) dated/irrelevant for an American public socially conditioned to accept a historical memory of only a five year time span. Until then , I'm writing this California new outlet a letter of support. Edited April 21, 2005 by Vayri7X
