what is hte root of Panir?

I know Indians also call chese "Panir".  Any connection?

"Hats u panir, ker u banir".

(Bread and cheese, eat and toil).

There is not much about the subject.

Exceptt that, a short time ago, I was at a gathering where, there were among others some from India and Sri Lanka(Ceylon), oddly enough, the one from Sri Lanka had the surname of (Bala)Subramanian , of course, his colleagues knew him and called him "Bala".Photos were being taken, someone yelled to say "cheese". I intercepted and said; "You mean "paneer'"! Those who were familiar with the term were falabbergasted. How is it that a person who looks and speaks like any of the baove, be they of Italian, Irish or Polish heritage would be familiar with such a term?

Only then, Suhithra Subramanyan realized why they have solicited and harassed for solicitation by the Armenian church (after all their surname ends with the ubiquitous -ian/yan, doesn't it?)..I had to give them a concise and short lesson in armenology.

As to the etymology .

There is not much to dsay. Maybe our Persian friends can shed some light?

Ajarian , all but gives up.

Aside from ascribing it to, pajranil =makartil/to curd, the unrelated Pahlavi "panir", and Sanskrit and Turkish "peynir", he pericipates to the nonsense of "ban ir"( thing[word] and thing) to mean "hatsi het utelu ban", i.e, a "thing to eat with bread".

Go hed Azat!

Banir!

Toil to find a link. A "raison d'etre".

Is it because we found it to be so much toi and ban (hats ou panir)to covert milk to cheese?

Jeeeezzzz!!!

Or

Cheeeese/paneeeerr as the case may be!

I love Persian food. Ghorme sabzi and fesenjun are among my favorites  Now only if I could learn to make them!

Oh man, you like that stuff? Whenever my mother makes it I refuse to eat it, but everybody else eats it.
