I didn't know it was a closed thread??? Hmmmmm...

Calm down, will ya? Jeeeeeez. Remember, anger makes you lose, eh. So knock it off and let's stop acting like kids and start having a normal conversation. Agreed? ;)

Dan

Dan, I started that thread not to chitchat with someone, but to post my interpretations, you continued to pull my legs even when I made you understand that the comparaison was not what homosexuality vs incest were, but more about the compaison of the way both were viewed in our society, and even with my limited English, I am sure that most of the reader understood what I meant.

I am not angry but bored.

But do we know for sure that Raffi was not aware of the contents of the cans? This is one of the darkest points of the film and has caused many many arguments. When I watched the movie for a second time I tried to pay more attention to the details of the conversation between Raffi and the customs offical ... and the following events. If you remember, when Raffi goes to see his half-sister (I can't recall her name at this moment) he tells her that he was willing to risk everything to fulfill his mission. This tells me that Raffi knew what he was getting into ... and he went along with it, because (liked you said) he believed in what he was doing (bringing those videotapes to his mother). I don't know ... that's my take on the issue.

I think he knew. If you remember he called him mom and in Armenian asked her for help. Plus why would they need the extra footage if the movie was going to premier the day he was arriving.

Then why Raffi would question about why the dog is not used if he knew there was drug in those cannes ?

EDITED: Another thing Azat, asking help and talking in Armenian does not prove anything... another explannation may be that he asked for help because he knew he could not let the film open and prove there was no drug, and that he himself may start to question if there was some... or that he just would want to save those cannes and asked help to take those cannes out. Dan, I started that thread not to chitchat with someone, but to post my interpretations

And I replied, not to chitchat with someone, but to express my views.

you continued to pull my legs even when I made you understand that the comparaison was not what homosexuality vs incest were

I didn't continue to pull your legs. Heck, I didn't even START pulling your legs. Simply saying "agree with me" in an argument does not mean that I will agree. And I wasn't even looking for an argument - I was just posting my comments, in a thread you started, instead of starting a new thread. Now, I can say, YOU started pulling my legs for what I said, but I won't say that. I don't battle semantics, dude. So just drop it. Thankyouverymuch.

and even with my limited English, I am sure that most of the reader understood what I meant.

Yes, I am sure of that, but what if, with your "limited English" (as you put it), YOU misunderstood ME? At any rate, I apologize if my previous reply/comments seemed out of line or off-topic. I thought we could comment on others' comments... If I was wrong, I apologize. Now, let's stop right there.

I am not angry but bored.

Watch some hockey - Canucks vs. Minnesota, instead of just bashing people for their views just cos you're bored. And just so you know, I'm not angry with you or your posts - I have a deep respect for you, because you argue for what you believe in.

I'm done. Now, lemme go back to that Canucks game.

Domino, I though speaking Armenian was an automatic sign of being guilty. :)(just kidding)

I do not remember the conversation exactly but before the cans had been opened he told ani that he was in trouble(leading me to believe that he knew it was not film). Else he would have felt he was not in trouble bu the films had the possibility of being destroyed.

Maybe Arpa who just saw the film can remind us what the exact scenario was.

hmmmm, I wonder what happened? I just answered Fadis post and it is missing, but when I posted it it did show up.

----

I was saying that it is not that he just spoke in Armenian but the conversation was something like where Ani asked if he was in trouble and he said yes. If he thought that there was only film he could have explained what was happening.

Maybe Arpa can remind us how it went because it has been a little while since I saw the film.

Azat, Raffi questioned himself if they were films, when he realised himself that there is a big chance that there is something in those cannes, but still at the end he did asked to close the lights and had fate that it would end up that there would be film in those cannes.

If you remember, he asked why the dog was not used, he indrectly requested that dog be used, if he would know there was drug, why would he do that ? He talked in Armenian yes, he sounded like guilty, but I think that was on purpouses by Egoyan, in order that we question whatever or not he knew what was in. The thing that makes me believe he didnt knew is that he tells at the end that he felt the ghost of his father when the lights were closed, like an indication that this closed light was an indication of his fate, in something he believed in... like his father died for something he believed in, even if the appearence could indicate that he was a terrorist etc... it does not change the fact that he had a fate in something, that for some may look like a lie etc...

Think about that, his step sister was I believe on drug, he asked help, like he was guilty, and the end when it was discovered that the film was already finished and had to be presented for its permer, he changed his story telling that what was in was not his, even if all this appearence indicated he was guilty, he still asked to close the lights and had fate in what he was telling. For me Raffi proved his innocence when he told to his step sister that when the light was closed he felt the ghost of his father, a father that he knew as the one that died, and was known in the film as the one that died for his fate, that was what it meant at the end.

I may be wrong, but that is how I see it.

He though that he knew what was in the canes, he really though they were films... why would he ask to close the lights ? And more, he felt the ghost of his father when the lights were closed, like his father though until the end that what he was doing was right, no matter if in fact it was right, at that moment when the lights were closed Raffis fate was in test, until the end he still believed what he says.

i disagree.

i think he knew he was carrying the drugs, which was the risk he was prepared to take to vist the Island of Achtima (sorry dont know spelling). and as his Step sister put it 'put a flame in his heart'.

his father had risked everything for something he believed in, and in this instance so did Raffi - he was risking his liberty to visit the Island and the occupied areas in order to discover something in himself.

that's why he states 'when the lights went out i felt closer to my fathers ghost than ever before'. because his father made a similar risk in order to be true to himself.

thats the way i see it, i'm sure there are many other ways to look at it though.
