Forced Westernization

i don't think my point has been clear enough. my argument was not of that common line "who's to say what's right what's wrong", but that the right thing applied forcefully in an untimely manner, without any precedence is worse than no change, because it doesn't produce the initially planned affect.

 

for example, i wouldn't have any problem, if someone stood in Armenia, for example, and asked for laws protecting gay rights. then, maybe built a movement and achieve those goals over time, while the whole process was developing in the eyes of the public and they experienced it first hand. but when no such thing has ever even been heard about in the country, and a special mandate is coming from Brussels that such laws are a must, then that's a problem.

Harut, but in this case would it be considered forced westernization? I view it more like a trade - give up your traditional preoccupation against gays, and we will give you a European membership. If the majority of the country agrees then it will be a willingful westernization. As for the minority, well it looks like they will be forcibly westernized, but they would not be much different from those minorities in the West who are against gay rights and are forced to live in a society were gays are entitled the same status as they are.
