Im not a fan of todays 'political system' in Armenia, its far from being a democracy and there certainly is nothing 'noble' about it - I dont see how this is relevant to what we are discussing though. ...and like I said more than 250 years ago it wouldnt have mattered to an Armenian commoner what language his lord spoke - since a lord is a lord, weather he is 'foreign' or local - they all spoke the same language: tax and mandatory military service and 'foreign' lords often did a better job of protecting their domains since the political hierarchy they belonged to was more centralised/secure eg. ok VN, You dont need to be an expert at Armenian history to know how the Feudal system operated. A system of legalised banditry. Commoners were like currency and a measure of a nobles wealth since the more commoners one had, the more taxes could be collected and the larger an army could be called up. In return for taxes and military service the gentry was to provide security and once again you dont have to be an expert in history to realise what a poor job the Armenian nobles did. For every Armenian noble hero you have named, you can be certain there were a hundred tiny tyrants taxing their dependants through their nose. Those that couldnt/didnt pay were physically punished or lost their livelihoods. To a commoner it DID NOT matter what 'nationality' (will get to this a little later) his lord was since they all spoke the same language: TAX. ok mr nobleman, Indeed Im not an expert in geneology or Armenian history, and I dont claim to be. I do know a little bit of Armenian and general history and have based on opinion on what I have read. On your part, in all the long posts, you are still yet to prove that "The nobility traditionally played a mobilizing and leading role in the Armenian society, and greatly contributed to the preservation of Armenian national values, promotion of patriotism and the struggle of Armenians people for freedom.... " is fact. Point me to a book or link on the net, and if you are right I will happily apologise for whatever grief I have caused you... I think you are reffering to an earlier period when the Armenians allied themselves with the Mongols against the Caliphate in Egypt. The Armenian nobility was wiped out by Tamerlame in a later Mongol invasion (I think) because they had sided with the Ottomans and because Tamerlame couldnt resist a good BBQ.

I really dont care for these self-proclaimed nobles, but I left a message in their guestbook anyway. PS. I also remmember reading somewhere that the Armenian nobility was effectivelly wiped out by the Mongols in 13th(?) century....

indeed, so they shouldnt be claiming that they have: "traditionally played a mobilizing and leading role in the Armenian society, and greatly contributed to the preservation of Armenian national values, promotion of patriotism and the struggle of Armenians people for freedom" since they always put their own interests first and foremost and if this happened to coincide with the interests of the general Armenian populace then so be it. One example proving this a lie is the famous battle of Avarair. You may be surprised to know that a large chunk (Im talking about at least 30%) of all Armenian nobles sided and fought with the Persians against their Armenian kin.

Not according to the stuff that I have read (will try to find the material online when I have time). But yeah, my understanding is that the Armenian nobility were just as selfish and self-serving as their European counterparts if not more so. Some even seeked to disassociate themselves from the people they ruled by claiming to have foreign ancestors (Chinese, Jewish etc.)

The Chronicles of Riddick Oh boy! Where do I start. In short, this movie is f###ing shit! Being a sequel to the half-decent 'Pitch Black' and the nice preview trailers I got treated to, I thought this would be just as good as Pitch Black if not better: how wrong I was The beginning is not bad, but soon things start deteriorating as Vin Diesel (Riddick) appears and starts shooting out Riddickulous one-liners like a gatling gun. The story/plot is SO BAD with SO MANY holes in it you could be forgiven for thinking it was conjured up by a down-syndromed eight year-old. This movie assaults your intelligence and senses to the point where you feel like your bleeding from every orifice. To make matters even more miserable for myself I had contracted the flu a couple days before the movie, had a huge headache (you know the one where your ears are buzzing) and my throat was f###ed so it was difficult to swallow anything, so I hardly touched my 'Mega' popcorn . Anyhow, the effect of the movie and my cold was that it took me 5 days to recover enough to write this review. Some notable things said by audience during the movie: "This movie is absurd" "Whats happening to my brain?" "I cant see" - during a hand-to-hand combat scene where the camera jumps around SO MUCH, masking the terrible acting. Everything about this movie is in fact terrible. Verdict: Dont forget to spit on Riddicks poster after you have left the theatre, or better still dont see the movie. 1/10

...I should mention, one of my (Armenian) friends cousins are coming over from Iraq - a girl (21) and a guy (19). They are relativelly well off but it has become unbearable so the parents are sending them over.
