    Back Pain

with back problems its always difficult to find the underlying issue, the best advice anyone can give you is to consult THE BEST SPECIALIST you can find.
  16. I just finished reading this book. Some info on the author: The book was written in 1925 and basically covers his experiences in East Anatolia and the Caucasus (1920-21). Its quite interesting, I had never realised how bloody/anarchic the Bolshevik takeover of Armenia was.... Anyhow, I was wondering as to how historically accurate it is and if anyone else has read it....
  17. ok, ill take your word for it and give it a try
  18. he certainly is good, and very modest too....
  19. Siamanto, looks like I wont be able to prove anything to you short of lending you my time-machine, here, take a puff.... As for the military: pound for pound the asiatic/turkic horse archer was unstoppable untill the wider circulation of gunpowder ie. about the time the Turks were turned back in the Balkans. that may be, but as far as I know by the time of the Crusades allready the Church had very much become a pillar of the State or rather a means of keeping the commoners passive and obedient to their earthly masters. And yet it was after this period that Europe began to to assert its power.
  20. indeed, how else can you measure the effectiveness of a military system, except by its success? The European continent would have also been Islamised had it not been for the fanaticism of Christian knights. as for science, its a widely accepted fact that the Muslim world was (far?) more advanced. Some links I found in google: http://home.swipnet.se/islam/articles/HistoryofSciences.htm http://www.netmuslims.com/info/inventions.html http://www.islamicity.com/mosque/ihame/Sec12.htm
  21. I think another reason could be the competitive nature of the European states. Since the collapse of Rome, the entire continent has been almost in a perpetual state of war. As adversaries sought to gain an advantage over one another they took on ideas from abroad and developed technologies at home. As we all know nothing stimulates technological advancement like the necessities brought on by war - as an example you can look at WW1 and WW2. average life expectancy in Roman times in 30s, now 70+ +the fact that they could run successfully an Empire that big +banking system +sciences etc.
