Many people have been assimilated under the name of Armenia. The Urartians(Biaini) were not Armenians but they were eventually assimilated. Many Assyrians eventually blended in with the Armenians. For the most part Armenian kings were of foreign decent. The royal line of Artashes ( Artaxiads) had foreign Achaemidian roots. It included Tigran the Great. Also didn't Tigran resettle Greeks and Jews into historical Armenia and they eventually were Armenized. The Arshak(Arsaces) line had Parthian roots and it included Trdat III who converted to Christianity. Even St. Grigor was not Armenian but Parthian. Although we do accept him as an Armenian. His last name was Pehlavi, son of Anak Pehlavi, who by the way murdered Trdat II (Khosrov I), the father of Trdat III the Great. The Armenian Church was always open to people wanting to convert to (Armenian) Christianity some of whom eventually became Armenian. So this intermarriage thing works both ways, Armenians either lose by it or in some cases end up winning. But of course that depends on your definition of winning or losing in those instances.

Thanks Arpa, but like Vava I do not have the resources to be able to go to Yerevan anytime soon. Sip, Thanks for your suggestion. I already did searches on that and found what you have. The only problem is that these boards are not the ones I am looking for. The ones I found have arrows for the places where the stones go. I desire one that has notches instead(the ones used in the Caucasus.) Here's a picture of the basic outline for the curious. If all else fails I will have to build one :-) http://expert.ics.purdue.edu/~kgrigory/misc/nardi1.jpg

Sip, Yeap a fellow computer engineer at purdue university, but you on the other hand are an evil computer scientist. I've been following your progress on this board, hehe. Azat, the above should answer your question, and if you want I have many more Armenian mp3s over 3000 actually, it's on a T1 server so the speed is pretty fast. check it out if you want maybe you will find something interesting. ftp://hye:em@128.211.245.25:7777

The Armenian authorities applied to the USA to buy 3 atom bombs and nuclear delivery vehicle. According to Three smiles, one for each Hi Arpa, I don't think that is an April's fool joke, I just read that story on groong.usc.edu , I doubt they would post a joke on there. It does seem very strange though. Just though I'd let you know. Konstantin

quote:Originally posted by Twilight Bark:Alright people, do you think the Homshentsik are Armenians? Do you think it is worthwhile to reach out to them? I think it is worthwile to reach out to them, for example the essay by Vaux mentions that some in Russia identify themselves as Armenians now, which is good, due to the small amount of our population we need more people in our ranks. Thats just my opinion, but I think many people will disagree. Many Armenians will say that since they are not Christian then they are not Armenian. But maybe if we reach out to them in time they will start to identify with us and maybe even convert back. But I do not see a way of how the Armenians now can help out the Hemshin. Konstantin

I'm thinking of becoming a vegetarian but I still have research to do in terms of whether it is healthier or not. My grandmother has been eating meat almost everyday of her life and she is 93 years old and is still healthy. But she grew up in Artsakh and not in the USA so I would guess the meat products there are more natural. I have a question of whether vegetarians eat broth from soups that were made out of meats. And also if vegetarians eat artificial meat flavors like the ones in the noodle packets. One final note, if being vegetarian was the best option then wouldn't have almost all the animals in nature evolved to be herbivores(vegetarians)?

MosJan thanks for the info. hayemyes: I talked to an Armenian musician from LA and he said that in order to have Armenian accompinement you would have to write the rhythms yourself and play along with them. He uses a Korg ow1. Another alternative he said would be to find a keyboard that has built in 6/8 rhythms. hope this helps where did you get the Roland E-14 Oriental?I looked all over the net and those are only available in europe i think. lav chem xosum hayeren, bayts sovorumem. Ozumem gidem hova etpes lav yerkum? recorded: 1960?, baku. clarnet: Karo Chohchogoryan

I found an old recording that was given to me a long time ago by a clarinet player from baku. It is Armenian muham (mugam). There is a clarinet playing and a lady singing. The clarinet player is Karo Chorchogaryan, and the recording was made in the 50's. The lady singing is a refugee from the ottoman empire. I have never heard this style of music among Armenians so I thought it was interesting. I converted it to mp3s and you can listen to it here: http://icdweb.cc.purdue.edu/~kgrigory/armenian/ or for a lower bitrate you can listen to it here: http://icdweb.cc.purdue.edu/~kgrigory/armenian/lq/ I would like your feedback or any other type of information you may have on this type of music or on the lady singing. Thanks for your input.
