Hi everyone. I'm curious to find out if it would be a good idea to participate in a tour to historical Armenia through a tour organization based in Armenia. I know that there are many organizations based in Yerevan which organize such trips. But I'm curious to hear other opinions or know if anyone else has participated in them and what organizations are known to have a good reputation. Thanks

Artsakh should be placed on our priority list. The genocide recognition issue isn't going anywhere; books are being published more and more about them so ordinary people can read about it and I frankly don't care if the leaders of this or that government don't want realize it as such just because it doesn't correspond to their interests.

And how will Georgia respond once we recognize Abakhazia and S. Ossetia? At first, there will be the usual nonsense about making routine repairs to the railroads and then they'll choke us by regularly closing down the border. The West and the EU will respond in one form of another. Russia is going to be the only guarantor of Armenia's security in that region in case the sh&t hits the fan and conflict erupts. But yeah, I agree, a new direction is desperately needed right now.

Drop the emotional genocide baggage already. Anyone who is acquainted of the April 24-US President-two step and who seriously says that they didn't expect Obama to not fulfill his pledge is a gullible buffoon and it's childish that we're stilling crying and whining over about it, calling Obama a traitor, etc. Of course he was going to do it? He's not going to sell-out US national security and policy in the Middle East just so we Armenians can sleep easier at night. Who cares if 90% of the world recognizes the genocide 15 years from now when Azerbaijan and Turkey have swallowed up Armenia and there is no Armenia to even speak about? The Armenian lobby has accomplished little next to nothing and it's about time we start concentrating our energies on more fruitful projects.

WALL STREET JOURNAL: DEAL ON ARMENIAN-TURKISH BORDER OPENING MAY BE SI
hyethga replied to MosJan's topic in International
Yes, we must not forget about the West's insatiable thirst for natural resources and money, human rights and justice be damned. -
Suny never writes that the land "historically belongs to Azerbaijan" - that's just a distortion. You can guys check up the pages if you want. Although I have to admit, Soviet history aside, the man has been wrong in so many places when talking Artsakh and nationalism in the region.

Robert Thomson has said some of the most absurd things regarding ancient Armenian historians. While I don't find anything nefarious in his works, he is a terrible philologist (he is not a historian) and his conclusions have done a great deal of damage to the reputation of the ancient scholars. Thank God he is retired.

Armenian economy in the face of the world economic crisis

Please remain pessimistic. Its economy is in dire straits indeed. -

Does anyone remember the names of the singers or better, the choirs, who have sung to the lyrics of Yeghishe Charent's "Yes Im Anoush Hayastani" and where I can download or buy the song from? Thanks very much.

I know, me too. I remember reading a statistic back in 2005 that said that the number of children born in Stepanakert had risen to 4,000, up from I think only a few hundred during the war years.

Do the Armenian Balyans of this world have anything to do with the Balians from Western Europe? Perhaps some sort of "xarneling" during the Crusades?
-
I have entertained such thoughts before, if the situation is reduced to the point where Armenia is on the brink of quite real extermination, yes.

Russia is a superpower that's naturally going to look after its interests and it can do whatever it damn well pleases. This supposedly startling "betrayal" has been a common theme for 200 years! Keep in mind that there were Russian emperors in the first half of the 19th century who vacillated from destroying the Ottoman Empire to propping it up and "doing business with it." This isn't to say that we should always try to please Russia but to play their game with politics. America's presence is lightly felt but it'll never and should never be viewed as a substitute for Russia. If you want Russia to value you, you nudge it lightly; you don't push it away with like that idiot Saakashvili did and then lose all your trump cards in the process. Whether we choose to accept it or not, Russia's not going anywhere. I'm surprised people are still having difficulty adjusting to this fact.
-
Still, their presence in Armenia is perhaps the only reason why Armenia hasn't been gobbled up by Turkey or Azerbaijan (or Georgia )

That's right, the world is out to get the Turkey for the sake of besmirching its name. Finally, the conspiracy has been unveiled!

Government Seeks To Shrink Key Armenian Lake
hyethga replied to MosJan's topic in Republic of Armenia
"Government Seeks To Shrink Key Armenian Lake" lol, how many other "key" lakes does Armenia have? -
Well don't think you're the only one out there who wants to see his country succeed. Screaming and waving your hands around just makes you look foolish.
-
Yup this is it. Thanks.

Does anyone know the name of a certain song that was played in an episode in Nu Pakadzi! that went "annam syoravno, annam syoravno" ("everything is the same"). The name of the singer and song name elude me. It was also featured in Hayko & Mko episode also where the man told his wife to turn a light switch on and off.

Calm down. This kind of mindset has never gotten far in the past.
