  1. They are probably regular glasses that tint in the sun. Every priest or bishop in the USA that I know has a cell phone. I've seen Archbishop Khajag Barsamian talking on the phone and driving at the same time... I don't know who the one on the right is with the phone. The one in the middle is Archbishop Oshagan Choloyan of the Eastern Prelacy of the US. The one on the left looks very familiar, but can't remember his name.
  2. The Armenian Assembly of America has a summer internship program in Armenia. Birthright Armenia will have you find a position in Armenia as well. I know the AYF and a few other organizations also have summer internships all over Armenia. I did one in 1999 through the Armenian Assembly - worked at the Foreign Ministry.
  3. Congratulations to the Armenian National Committee of America for organizing an informative conference in Washington, DC this past weekend. It provided a great insight into the workings of the ANCA and how its productive work affects our community.
  4. Azadian is a hard core ramgavar-agbu man from the detroit area. All he does in that article is take swipes at LTP and the ARF and even the late Karekin I... I have no idea how bringing in Karekin has anything to do with changing the national anthem - except that he's taking swipes at tashnags... If he had a quarter of Karekin's intellect, he would not have written that article. Funny, because I know hard core tashnags who blamed LTP for everything - first they took our flag, then they took our anthem, and finally they took our vehapar... Keep the anthem, keep the flag, keep the emblem - i only wish we could bring back Karekin.
  5. When my brother and I were in public school growing up in NJ during the 1980s, we used to take off for January 6 and bring in a note from the priest or diocese. After a certain point, they put Jan 6 on the district wide school calendar - not everyone had it off, but those who chose to take it would not be charged with an unexcused absence. There were only a few Armenian students in all 17 schools...

    Rio

My best friend from college married a girl from Rio so about 70 people from the US went down to Rio for the wedding. Her brother still lives in Sao Paulo and has a few Armenian friends because he told me about the Armenian priests with the Darth Vaderish black caps and robes...

    Sao Paulo

I was in Brazil (Rio) for a wedding back in May. It's beautiful. My flight had a one hour layover in Sao Paulo so I couldn't really see the town.
  8. A view of Mt. Ararat from the other side. Raffi Hovanissian as president. A new Catholicos of All Armenians. None of the above will happen by 2020. One can only hope.
  9. I thought that driving with a cell phone is a secondary offence, meaning you have to be stopped for something else as well. I talk and drive all the time here in NJ and have never been stopped.
  10. I'm curious - when and where did Karekin I give this sermon?
  11. Schiff can take Feinstein's seat and Ardy will very easily take Schiff's. I know Ardy very well. We interned together for Frank Pallone in DC. He is very talented. I am already telling people here in NJ to start writing checks to Kassakhian for Congress. Give it about 5-7 years.
  12. Yes, I remembered the 25% a few minutes ago. My mistake. I just met the guy too...oops.
  13. Glendale City Clerk - Ardashes "Ardy" Kassakhian Get rid of Adam Schiff and send Ardy to Washington.
  14. I guess you are not counting Anna Eshoo and John Sweeney, both of whom are 50% Armenian and members of the House of Representatives. There is also Joe Bogosian, not sure if he is 100%, but he's an Assistant Secretary or something at the Department of ??? don't remember.

    Armenian Tv

I'm in New Jersey and we have Globecast for our international channels. We pay $22.95 per month for Globecast and that lets us get Ch. 4 which is the H1 from Armenia and Ch. 700 for the Horizon station from Los Angeles, along with dozens of Asian and Middle Eastern stations. I rarely watch H1 unless it's a fun event involving singing or dancing. Horizon I basically watch one show - Dr. Krikor Tatoyan on Outreach - which airs 9:30 pm to 10:30 pm Eastern time (6:30 pm in LA) on Thursday nights. He gives medical advice with his Halebtzi Armenian accent and mannerisms. He is ridiculously funny and interesting to watch. It's a call-in show and people call in from all over the US and Canada.
  16. I think we have tons of AIM issues at home. What happened to them? I'm guessing they went under.
  17. I saw Karnig sing at the Hovnanian Armenian School in NJ on Friday, June 2. It was the best Karnig concert I've ever been to. He started at around 1045 and ended at around 245 am. He still has an incredible voice and he really got the young ones singing along with him. It was an event organized by the NJ ARF and ANC.
  18. Edward K. Boghossian, the founder of The Armenian Reporter, passed away Sunday morning, June 11, 2006. He headed the newspaper for 40 years and it was just sold to the Cafesjian foundation a few weeks ago.

    Anca Telethon

THe ANCA works for ALL Armenians in Washington, not just Tashnag related ones. Their efforts on genocide recognition, aid to Armenia, trade relations with Armenia, the Humanitarian Aid Corridor Act, the Armenian Caucus - these are not Tashnag issues - these are pan-Armenian issues. They and the Armenian Assembly work very hard to push these issues in Congress and with the Administration. The Armenian Assembly is perceived as being run by one or two very wealthy individuals while the ANCA has much more grassroots support. Either way, both do a lot of good work. My only gripe with the AAA is TARC.

    Anca Telethon

The ARF is basically the parent organization for the AYF, ANCA, ARS and Hamazkayin. What is so wrong or strange about that?
  21. Evans is not the only one to publically say Armenian Genocide. In 1998, I and other students at Boston College met with Nicholas Burns and he said it was genocide but he kept saying "off the record, off the record."
  22. there are four seasons to a year for a reason.
  23. I think this basically sums it up. I'm from the East and once I saw four young guys storm out of a store in Glendale and hop into a Rolls Royce!!! WTF????
