Interesting points, Domino. The world was flat because they believed so. The world now is round because we have observed it. Can you say that it's only a matter of faith that the earth is round? I'm not so sure about that...
-
Domino, but then people would disagree on what constitutes the bulk of "rational" or valid reasons for self-harm. It is relative, after all, because of differing mentalities and personalities. Hence the problem with stereotyping people.
-
You're right, Domino. But things might change, and I wouldn't say it's impossible to prove that God exists or doesn't exist. That we didn't know the fundamental laws of gravity didn't mean that there were none. So Sir Isaac Newton discovered them. Same for the issue of God. But as it is now, you're right, we can't prove or disprove the existence of God. Hence why it's only a matter of faith, and that cannot be further used to prove other things. This goes all the way back to my argument in the Spinoza thread.

No denying that there is an underlying problem when people cut. Only that some do it for attention, and that basically shapes up the stereotypes. As for me, I've seen someone "trying" to cut herself, I'm sure she wasn't going to. Nevertheless, I did go and talk to her. That stopped her anyhow. Not sure if she would've gone ahead and cut herself. I highly doubt it. I'd say those who do cut themselves do it only for themselves, not for others. It's a redirection of the anger towards oneself. The human mind is such a complex thing ...

LOL gevo, I can assure you that it doesn't mean anything . . . Or maybe we're both having PMS issues... LOL!!!

THOTH, I agree with you! That is exactly the problem with religions. Which is why we need proof rather than just word of mouth and claims that "this" or "that" is the right religion. In fact, there might be no God at all. That is exactly what I mean about basing one's thought processes or arguments on illogical premises. And of course, I would love to see the movie.

O.K, here's something I wrote just for Anileve, and the women on here, that they may read and be inspired or find some solutions to their little red riding hood problem: And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, "Speak to us of Little Red Riding Hood." And he said: "Tea. It is the cure for all. It is the brown wolf that chases the red riding hood away. It is the thing that reverses the story of the red riding hood! Tea, drink it, and you shall be cured. Place the hot cup on the site where the red riding hood does her work, and it shall devour her, like a wolf."

My apologies. There seemed to have been a semantic mistake on my part. Skittles is right. She said "most." I agree. Thanks for the correction, Nairi.

It does leave scars, sometimes. depends on how deep it is. sometimes it needs hospitalisation, sometimes not. most don't go to the hospital. sometimes it creates problems with infections. it is pretty . . . dangerous. one can catch anything from a not-properly disinfected wound...

That too, in most cases anyway. I've talked to a few of them personally. One girl who was in my class used to come to school with a bandaged hand. It was obvious that she had bandaged it. Cutters or those who "want" or pretend to be cutters to get attention - seen them all. But that is not to generalise. I agree that there are a lot of them who do it privately and don't want anyone to see. So you're right, in a way. I suppose it depends on the person.

I totally missed this thread! Welcome to the forum, mbscalise. I live in a self-catered flat (univ. accommodation) located around U of Liverpool.

I disagree. Just go on some depression forums or online communities, and you'll see for yourself.

My impression of the day: "Things do get boring after a while." I have to admit that life as a student does get boring after some time. True, I cherish my undergraduate years, because postgraduate school is so much different, but would I go back to those years? No, I don't think I would. Even now that there has been a bit of change, between undergrad and postgrad, I sense a monotone flow in the days. But I do not dislike it, by any means. On the contrary, I am dedicated to it. It is only that it gets boring after a while. I am young, and I want to go and tour the world, visit countries, meet new people, instead of rotting in some room (years from now), given to me because I have "earned" faculty status. Creating opportunities for oneself is hard. And I want to do just that. I feel like I choose the difficult road in everything. And when I realise it before I'm knee-deep into it, I ask myself why I chose that difficult road, when I could just as well have picked the easier one that would've probably gotten me to the same place. And I feel dumb because of it. But once I finish what I'm doing, it gives me a whole lot more satisfaction, knowing that I chose something and stuck with it. But again, repetition gets boring. Maybe people need to choose the easy road sometimes, even if it comes with the stereotypes of cowardice and so on.

Cutting oneself has deep psychological roots, such as trying to get attention. True, those who do it deny that they're doing it for attention, and they might not be doing it intentionally, but it clearly is for attention, or it's some sort of "on the route to madness," becaues no one in their right mind would cut themselves. Suicide is an altogether different issue, because once you do it, it's done and over with, but cutting oneself is different. Sev-mard, nice, you were a counselor? That's great. I see a lot of troubled kids around. Tough times, I suppose.

Haha!! That was funny, Sasun... that is what I was referring to, more or less... LOL..

I have definitely thought about harming myself (on more than one occasion), yes (not cutting myself, as I don't think I'd be able to do that no matter how depressed etc. I was) - but I haven't done it. Just thoughts, no actions. I don't think it's a good idea. No matter how depressed or sad or frustrated one is, there's always a way out. You might call me a radical optimist, but . . . I speak from experience (well, not saying that I've experienced what others are experiencing, but still... I don't know).

What's with all the negativity towards men on here? (right, you're gonna say it's humour, but a lot of it doesn't seem to be humorous at all . . .)
-
Dogs are loyal . . . unlike some women (and men)? hmm.. lol Haha, Nairi, that was a good one!!

K, since the attachment didn't work, I've posted the picture on my website: (Copy and paste URL in browser, otherwise you won't be able to see it by clicking on it from here) http://www.geocities.com/den_nab/syrian.jpg :lol2: :lol2:

I'm interested in finding out who this guy is. If you find out who he is and what his name is, do share, AllArmenianGirl.

Mmmhmmm... And what exactly am I doing? She wanted creativity and sarcasm, and I wrote up something for her. ... ? Sarcasm, people, sarcasm...

If the world were full of women like our very own witty PMS-ing Devilina, men would've had to run for their lives. Is that creative enough for you? Don't kill me, please. If anyone has read my post about men clubbing other men on the head to get mates, this is a very very similar situation. Women clubbing men on the head to get what - nothing but anger relief. A suggestion: take some anger management classes.
-
No, I read your post completely. In fact, more than once (which seems to have been a waste of time). But I still find it a means of attention seeking. But that's just me. And perhaps women do tend to do that during that time of the month, after all . . . As for the "creativity" of this thread, I must say that sympathetic writing rarely if ever helps women (perhaps Devilinas are exceptions). Instead, I will keep my "creative" contribution short and sweet, and effective. Here it is: http://www.midol.com/

Well, not the smell of a baby that was born just a second ago, but yeah, I agree. I've held newborn babies before, and owww, the smell is just.. yeah. I guess you get the point! :)

http://www.mises.org/images3/jailfree.gif LOL... seems like they're kicking him out of heaven haha.. I think there are very deep meanings in that illustration -- that life is hell outside jail (maybe inside too, but there's discipline inside, whereas outside is a chaos of self-interest). . . I don't know..
