    Cookbook

Ok, I've just really started cooking I want to learn the traditional Armenian meals and today I want to make spas (one of my favorite soups, and seems super easy). In some of the recipes the soup includes one egg and some omit this (Azat's in Armenianrecipes.com). My question is, do I really need to put the egg or not?
  5. Very well said Sip. To add, Brian, don't you think you both have waited too long to tell her parents about you? Wouldn't they hurt extremely if they found out they were the last ones to know and everybody else, including her brother and her best friend's family already knew about you? Other than that, if you've been accepted by everybody else you've met (the entire Armenian community in your city) and they find you both great as a couple (what else is more important, really?) then you shouldn't worry about the debate whether an Armenian should marry an odar or not. It's more philosophical and doesn't seem to apply to real life (apparently). Good luck!
  6. I'm glad to see such essays where the younger generation condemns the current music situation in Armenia and in the Armenian diaspora.
  7. Precisely, and this has been written about and debated for thousands of years, from Plato and Aristotle to Boetius and St. Augustine to Bertrand Russell. I'm so happy to be in the music profession
  8. I'm curious to know how common this practice really is in Armenia? Is it really that widespread? Growing up I never heard of this (granted, of course, that I left Armenia at ten) and the small number of women (of my mom's generation) who did discuss their weddings regarded such traditions with scorn and something that is reserved for the "hetamnats". Am I wrong to assume that what Jezebel is referring to is practiced only in some remote villages in Armenia?

    Words Of Wisdom

    Oooh, I love this one.
  10. I've began reading the biography of Horowitz. What a great man he really was, and how tragic his younger years were during the Russian Revolution and afterward as he left his family behind.

  16. I don't watch any soap operas, but couldn't ignore a few minutes of the series about the orphans (after the news on H1?). It's sooooo depressing! The kids only have one expression on their faces (suicidal) and the recurring depressing melody every second in the series makes it impossible to watch

    EUROVISION 2009

I thought the song is in the same category as the previous songs Armenia has presented over the years. Nothing spectacular. But that Anush and Inga are much better singers than the rest, there is no question about it. This song in particular could be more appealing is they just sped up the tempo.
  18. I know dear Em, but what about those people who later regret that they never had any children? You're right, every one has a right to lead the kind of life he/she wants to lead. But as I grow older I realize that no one is free. We all live by society's established rules. And society dictates that life will go on even after we are gone. Hence we need to bring forth the the next generation, and the next generation needs to bring forth the next, and so on and on.
  19. Hello Andre, even though it's a bit late I still want to say Welcome to Hyeforum I looked through your website and it's good. A lot of information!
  20. Em, I think lots of people in the Armenian community raise their eyebrows at those who don't want any children because they all have known lonely bachelors in their fifties who lament about what could have been. This is not to say that all people who choose not to have children are lonely in their later years, but some do get lonely. Maybe it's the communities way of guiding people to more conventional lives. Having said that, I now, more than ever, realize what great responsibility having a child is. To bring a child into this world and raise the child to be a productive member of society is the most important job a parent will ever have. Not everyone is ready, nor willing, to sign up for that job.
  21. Isn't this curious? Even though later in the article it states that children don't want to spend a lot of time with their parents, common sense dictates that quality time spent with children is very beneficial for them. If today's parents are spending more time with their kids, then why all the nostalgia about the '50's and '60's family values? Looking at my students, I think today's parents are doing very good job loving and nurturing the kids.
  22. This is a true story: Some years ago my mom and dad walked to their parked car in the supermarket parking lot. That specific car never had power door lock so my dad put in the key to the driver side door and opened all the doors. He sat in the driver's seat and my mom in the passenger seat. He then put the key in the ignition and started the car, at which point the automatic seat belts came on. My mom had a feeling that something wasn't right and then remembered that their car doesn't have automatic seat belts! My parents looked at each other surprised and then got out of the car. Their own car, with the same exact color and built, was parked a few cars down from where they were! Everyone's surprised when they hear this story because no one can explain how my dad's key not only opened another car's door but also started the car!
