Stormig
OK, there is relaxation where you just let go - and then I think there is relaxation where you kind of let loose energy or something. It's different. It feels different. Anyone experience this? Recently I was reading the novel a friend of mine wrote. Somewhere in there he mentioned something about being in a state where it was like he had rubbed his eyes and seen geometric shapes - and I said, yeah, that happens to all of us, doesn't it? Same with this? I mean - this kind of relaxation I'm talking about is one where it feels like the muscle detaches from the bones. It feels/sounds like when one tenses their eye muscles so there's a drony sound. Yes, a sound. No-one I've talked to so far can understand what I mean. I think for this you have to be pretty tense. I can't experience this when under the influence of alcohol. Anyone identify this before?
Maral
I have no idea what you are talking about...but curious to know just how you go about getting THAT relaxed! Sure could use whatever method does that...
Stormig
Well, do you at least feel the same way when you tense your eye muscles for a bit? If not, I have to get myself grounded ASAP!
Sip
Well, there is definitely this one kind of relaxation that comes after a few minutes of intense work but I think it's my favorite kind. Your forearms are all tense but the rest of the body just goes numb and feels like jello... that's until your mind comes back to reality and you realize you have to move and clean up the mess you just made. gevo27
Best way to feel relaxed is to run 3.2 miles in 16 minutes and 56 seconds... at the end you cant breath fast/hard enough and you think you may siffocate.. then when things settle down after about 45 seconds or so, you feel like throwing up but all youv had all day is water and energy bars, so nothing to come out.. then you get very very dizzy and lean on the bus and eventually lie down on your back on the asphalt... this is kinda painful but your more or less numb at this point... and about 4 minutes after the run, you then feel this extreme calmness... its like an orgasm of relaxation if you can imagin that.. im telling you its almost worth the torture of the previouse 20 minutes.. I ran the mile in under 9 (8:57 is more like it) minutes and came in fourth among a bunch of 55 girls.

Stormig
Stormy...I know what you mean with the closing the eyes,I remember seeing those thingies when I would rub my eyes for a bit too long...but I dont' equate that with relaxing at all...still dont' get it. style_images/master/snapback.png It's not the closing eyes and tensing the muscles and hearing a sound that makes it relaxing. It's the other full-body relaxation (still mostly in the legs for me) that gives the same sort of internal sound. And this full-body relaxation that I'm talking about is a way of letting go - I can't say I always feel more relaxed after. Anybody?? Stormig
Maybe this thread should have been a continuation of the topic, "Your brain"??
