Lana
Here is a puzzle to solve: Imagine a situation that a meteorite will fall on our planet and all the continents and countries will be destroyed and only one single little uninhabited island will be saved. A special commision has chosen 12 people who will be moved to that island, live there and develop mankind. In the airport it turns out that the airplane can afford only 9 of them. You should choose those 3 people who won't leave and sure they'll die. Whom you will not take on board and why? 1. Dr. Yan Osborne (male, 40 years old), Britich academician from London. A very good diplomat, helped to settle many conflicts aroun the world. 2. Francheska Chepo (female, 39). Linguist, translater. Speaks 20 languages. 3. John McDonnal (male, 33 years old). Fireman from New-York. The one who survived in his detachment during the teracts on September 11. 4. Dr. Hamed Bedruni (male,36). Doctor from Paris. Leader of the muslam community of Paris. 5. William Petwin (male, 54). Worked for a avery long time with a tribe on an island like this one. Knows the flora and fauna of the island. Has a knife and a spear. Has a cancer. 6. Jene Beyns (female, 32). Bilogist from India. Knows well the local fauna and fish. An alcoholic. 7. Show Lukas (male, 35). Officer of British army. Has an ability to survive in extreme situations. Homosexual. 8. Kristina McDonnal (female, 31). John McDonnald's (fireman) wife. A police officer and has a pistol. She is pregnant on her third month. 9. Robert Sisulu (male, 41). A black judge from SAR. A good hunter, has a gun. 10. Father Iegunio (male, 26). A Catolic priest from Spain. He is very doog at agriculture. Worked as a missioner with tribes of Oceania. 11. Nikol Bushar (female, 23). A top-model from Paris. 12. Amanda Green (female, 24). Telecommunication engeneer from Australia. The winner of "Last Hero". So you have to choose which three of these people will not fly to the island.
Anileve
11. Nikol Bushar (female, 23). A top-model from Paris. Without a doubt. God tells us to procreate doesn't IT? And I don't want to repeat history by making the same mistake of Sodom and Gomorrah incident where the daughters had to procreate with their father Lot to continue civilization. Mine will be young, full of vigor and most importantly unrelated to me. Sure it will involve some intelectual education, but we'll have time, since there will be nothing else to do. DominO123
The ultimate philosophical question. For me to decide whom to rescue, I have to creat a kind of "taxonomy" of people... give to some more values than others... I just can't do that. I won't just place a worth on people based on some kind of relative concepts... since different individuals will choose different people based on some kind of relative concepts. I will randomly choose, everyone will have equal chance to be chosen... natural selection and social selection etc... will take the charges of the new human evolution. And for your mockery of "worth". By the way the question implies that you will have to assign a certain value to the person you chose due to your own desires and not those judged by the established standards. Relative in that to each his/her own.

Nakharar
I will randomly choose, everyone will have equal chance to be chosen... natural selection and social selection etc... will take the charges of the new human evolution. I bet the person who will be left out of your selection won't appreciate your impartiality. I cringe for the day where we'll decide over the fate of others. After making such a choice we will be lesser human beings if at all. Survival for survival's sake is not worth much. In some cases it is better if we all perish. Francheska Chepo (female, 39). Linguist, translater. Speaks 20 languages. ---I suppose here you have chosen her because of her age, whom is considered a little too old to have a child? First she can still have a child, second, specialist of language, she can teach language to others children... here again, "utility" can play both ways. 5. William Petwin (male, 54). Worked for a avery long time with a tribe on an island like this one. Knows the flora and fauna of the island. Has a knife and a spear. So again, utility can play both ways. 7. Show Lukas (male, 35). Officer of British army. Has an ability to survive in extreme situations. Homosexual. ---Being homosexuality doesn't rander someone physically inept to procreat... under those sort of circonstances a homosexual might very well decide to have sex with a woman in order ro ensure human specy survival. --------------- The point I am making here is that judging peoples worth on utility is not the best thing to do, because the worthiness of each individual is relative... at least in a random choice, everyone has the same chance. Sip
Alright, let me see if I got this right ... so out of all the people, they picked these 12 supreme candidates? 1. 40 year old British Diplomat 2. 39 year old female linguist who talks too much 3. 33 year NY Fireman from New-York 4. 36 year old French muslim doctor 5. 54 year old male with cancer 6. 32 year old alcoholic indian lady 7. 35 year old gay british army officer 8. 31 year old pregnant female police officer with a gun 9. 41 year old black judge with a gun 10. 26 year old Catholic priest from Spain 11. 23 year old french model 12. 24 year old female Telecom engineer from Australia. Well, let's see ... we all know british diplomats are useless. The female linguist is just going to talk everyone to death. The NY firman will probably end up having an affair with the french model and then get shot by his hormone crazed wife. Then there is the gay british officer, a black judge, the catholic priest, and the alcoholic indian lady .... well this just sounds like the begining to a really funny joke where they all walk into a bar But that last one just killed me ... hahahahaahah... a 24 year old telecom engineer from Australia? That's got to be the funniest choice of all to "save humanity" ... I just have a feeling it was actually none other than Accelerated (aka Juggy) who put "female" on the application to increase his chances of making it to the island with the french model Edited September 1, 2004 by Seapahn

Azat
I am a firm believev of what Louis XV said. Lana
Here are some facts about this test. It is suggested often to students and those who apply for a job in big companies. The main reason is said to check if a person is able to feel oneself responsible for the destiny of humans or not. Otherwise can he decide who should live and who should die? Many people refused to give any answers to this test for the reason that it is too unhuman. Anyhow I'll give my variant of those whom I wouldn't take to the island a little bit later. Did you write it? style_images/master/snapback.png I am having trouble understanding what gevo said ... I thought God judges people AFTER they die ... isn't the question here to judge their worth in the future? Come on gevo ... if God could do that, there would be no point to life since he already would know who will be good and who will be bad. Here, we are asked to answer a question that even God in his glorious self would have trouble answering. I'm sorry but as much as you hate to hear it, your bible is useless in this case. It would be opinion if i refferenced it to my own feelings/emotions/thaughts.. etc... but i am not, i am merely refferencing back to the Bible, which none of you really want to hear about.. nor do i feel the need to be caleld a preacher once more on these forums.. ill leave it at that. gurgen
I'm merely saying there are many interpretations of the Bible, yours or someone else's is not necessarily right or wrong. It's what the Bible and it's message means to you what counts, and the question whether God or Jesus exist does not change that for me at all. Sip
And I'm merely saying the bible is useless here since it's used to judge actions that have already been committed and can't be used to measure people's worth in the future. Sip
No, actually I think past actions are really the only way to judge people (ala "Minority Report"). What I am saying is that the bible gives us a measure by which to judge past actions. The question, and what Domino is trying to formulate is a taxonomy of people's "worth", mainly based on their future actions and value. So in this case, the bible is of no real value and we need a new scheme ... maybe call it the "Fadixian taxonomy of people's worthitude"
